About Me
I am a retired R.N. with a zest for life. I have dealt with many challenges (cervical cancer with radical hysterectomy, radiation, lymphedema, cancer recurrence six years later, chemotherapy, heart attack, osteoporosis, and most recently glaucoma). I have been cancer-free for 15 years.

Thank you! Do you know of any support groups for spouses? I told my husband that I joined this support group and he is wondering if there is one out there for men (husbands/partners).

Just walking about the neighborhood and thought I would drop off some good thoughts and gentle (((hugs))) for your day. Keep hanging in there!!!! Patricia

Hi there, Pat!!
Yep, totally real tattoo. I just got it done on Fri so it is still a bit scabbed, but in a few weeks it will show all of it's beautiful color. This is actually my fifth one but my biggest one. After the last one (a cross on the inside of my wrist in honor of my grandma) I SWORE that would be the last one. Ah but this has meaning. ;)
Thank you so much for your kindness! I'll put up more pics of the kids soon. They're my greatest contribution to this world! Yeah, I kinda love 'em a little. ;)
How funny about the "x" marks the spot tattoo you have! One of my cats has one on her belly where she got spade.

Pat,
You are such an inspiration and seem to be such a caring person. I am trying so hard to stay positive. Today has been MUCH better than yesterday! I think the word "biopsy" just threw me into a panic. Of course I haven't let my guard down, but feel that with a clean pap in March this should be nothing. My husband, who has the video of my surgery on DVD (Davinci), said that if I saw how they sowed me back up I would understand better about the granulation tissue. I have refused to watch the video. LOL Your message was very sweet - made me cry this morning. Take care and thanks for the support!!!

Close Lymphedema
I've had lymphedema of the legs & pelvis for 22 years following cancer surgery and radiation.
Close Cervical Cancer
I was diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer 22 years ago at which time I had a Wertheim hysterectomy followed by radiation treatments because of a positive node found at surgery. I then developed lymphedema of both legs & pelvis following cancer treatment. Almost six years later, I had a metastatic spread diagnosed from a swollen node removed from the collar bone area. Then followed a year of chemotherapy for which I was hospitalized each month. I am now 15 yrs. cancer-free.
Treatments
- Chemotherapy Working / Worked
- Very effective. Received 3 drugs with good result. Lost my hair, nausea, loss of appetite - 34 lb. wt. loss over the year of chemo.
- Cisplatin Working / Worked
- Also Ifosfamide & Bleomycin. Hair loss, nausea, weight loss.
- Hysterectomy Working / Worked
- Wertheim hysterectomy at age 48.
- Radiotherapy Working / Worked
- 30 treatments (five days a week)with severe, painful diarrhea, fatigue, loss of appetite.
Open Glaucoma
I was diagnosed with glaucoma in Feb. 2008 and am under the care of a glaucoma specialist. I've used Xalatan initially, then Lumigan, had SLT treatment which reduced the pressure, and am back now on Xalatan.
