We love the view along the river and my hubby and I take walks along it as often as we can. Enjoy taking photos of wild life, colorful flowers and trees that are plentiful in our area. For around 11 plus years I've been doing our family genealogy and enjoy seeing the great roots our ancestors planted.

    • Close Osteoporosis

Diagnosised with osteopenia (low bone density) one year ago and my doctor put me on a calcium supplement. At the time I asked the pharmacists if I should keep taking the multiple vitamin that has extra calcium and was told, no problem, keep taking it and don't stop eating extra rich calcium veggies and dairy. Well now a year later I find out that the multivitamin taken at the same time as the calcium supplement inhibits the supplement!

      Treatments

      Calcium Somewhat Helpful
Not sure, just had a bone scan done last month and am scheduling a followup appt with my doctor to discuss treatment.
    • Close Hearing Loss & Deafness

In 1998 I had a hearing test and found I was losing a great deal of the hearing in my right ear. I was also told that I had congenital hearing loss in my left ear that had never diagnosised! The audiologist told me that lots of people don't know they have congenital hearing problems until they lose hearing in their good ear and that's what happened to me.

      Treatments

      Hearing Aids Working / Worked
Have two hearing aids, one digital and the other has a wheel to adjust it.
    • Open Healthy Relationships

We have a great marriage relationship. We're continually growing & learning how to be us. We share openly with each other the joys and tears of daily life & loving it & each other even more.

      Treatments

      Couples Counseling Working / Worked
About 11 years ago we did a 14 wk marriage seminar & it was great. We found we'd already been doing all the things they were trying to teach couples to do to have a wonderful marriage. We are blessed!
      Patience Working / Worked
We're learning to be patient with each other & with ourself; it's a growing process that stretches you.
      Talking Working / Worked
We have loved to talk with each other from day one. We talk over and discuss things, giving the other room to be real & open. It really works!
      Writing Working / Worked
I've kept a journal for the last 11 years. It helps to write out feelings and examine them so I can communicate more effectively and it's great to record daily life experiences we share.
    • Open Food Allergies

Didn't have food allergies as a child, but in my teens I began to have food allergies. I love lobster, crab, nuts & fresh fruit, but they don't like me! :)

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
      EpiPen Too Soon to Tell
My doctor gave me an EpiPen to use if I need it, so far I haven't needed it and hope I never will. But it's good that I have it just in case.
    • Open Environmental Allergies

Went to Allergist a year ago & found I'm allergic to dust mites, a lot of tree, grass & flower pollens, some cat & dog dander. Learned to adjust.

      Treatments

      Singulair Working / Worked
      Worked but caused a rash
      Astelin Working / Worked
    • Open Lactose Intolerance

Had a lot of dental work & was given a lot of antibiotics over 2 years. At end of dental work told I should've been eating yogurt within an hour of taking the antibiotic. The antibiotics destroyed the good bacteria in my intestinal tract! I've learned to adapt diet, but really miss ice cream, some cheeses & cottage cheese!

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
Avoid some cheeses, milk, ice cream & cottage cheese
      Lactaid Somewhat Helpful
An expensive bother, but was somewhat helpful for somethings.
      Lactose-Free Diet Working / Worked
Use lactose-free milk and ice cream and get Sorbet at a local Maggie Moo's Ice Cream store.
    • Open Alzheimer's Disease

My 86 yr old dad has had memory problems off and on for 10 years. We finally found a Dr that would do a CATSCAN. On Feb 14th Mama was told Papa's brain has shrunk and he may have Alzheimers. We think he's also had a series of light strokes resulting in Aphasia. I live in another state so I call my parents every day so they can talk. No one knows what stage he's at . Thank God my youngest brother is there to run errands for them and to take Papa to the doctors.

      Treatments

      Exelon Working / Worked
Papa had been using a patch for about 3 plus months and I see a change in his conversations. Not as depressed with repetitive as before. 2 days ago dosage was increased to a 9.5 mg daily patch. As of 3--6-08 Papa has improved greatly! Eating, remembers things, alert, no depression!
      Namenda Too Soon to Tell
Papa's doctor started him on Namenda this past week. read a lot of things online that mention a lot of yucky sideeffects. Info about the med says it's to treat symptoms AZ, Not sure if this is need right now as Papa doesn't have a lot of symptoms at this stage.
