Boundries are about;
First: having the ability within ourselves to determine what is right for ourselves. Second: finding it within ourselves to carry that out ... for our own lives.
It is about determining within yourself: that I have the inalienable right to be considered to be a valued person. I do have the right to expect to be respected as a valuable human being; with all my strengths and weaknesses, because afterall I am human and I was not designed to be flawless.
There are some things I can live with in other people and other things that for whatever reason are not things I can tolerate. Period. Period. End of Story. I just can't. It doesn't matter whethter or not someone thinks I "should" be able to tolerate whatever it is; the point is just that... I can't...I honestly can't... and if I truelly can't then I have to take responsibility for myself and do what I have to do to take care of me because I honor and LOVE ME!
Boundries are not: a selfishness of it always has to be about me...but some things like my my safety, my childrens safety and well being, mine and my childrens health etc. Have to be respected....And I have to respect that in other people too.
Boundries are not a form of punishment. Boundries are about establishing a guideline for ourlives that we can live with. It is not a tool for an ultimatum.
