confusion Mood
Friday, July 3, 2009 | A Call For Help story
Now my husband gets confused constantly.
Such as believing we have to meet someone, or go somewhere.  No clear days.   Do you believe it is part of his dementia or part of his Parkinsons?  He has both for 9 years. I am concerned, but his doctor says as long as it is pleasant things, not to worry.   I feel is he could take more than Aricept it might help at least somewhat.

My Father has more issues from the dementia side of Parkinson's than the physical side so I understand your concern.

They started him on Namenda which is different from Aricept, but can be taken together. There are also many that have had more success with Exelon than Aricept with Parkinson's Dementia. But one thing for sure is that everyone is different with this disease.

Have you checked on his PD meds to see if they are causing any of the additional confusion? Has he been through any cognitive testing with a specialist to help with this side?

Oh Benie, I feel for you, it's a rough road to care for someone you love with this mix.

One thing I know for sure is that we know our family better than anyone else and we need to keep pushing for care if we feel it's needed.

One big thing that helped my Dad when things got more foggy was to really keep him on a schedule, make sure he gets enough sleep, hydrated, watch for other signs of infection, exercise and quiet time so he can sort of regroup. Music helps him a lot to stay calm.

    Hang in there my friend.

Thanks for your response. His doctor mentioned Namenda and would start him on that. I just feel like I am slowly losing him. He knows me and is happy to see me. But that's it. I try talking to him but no intelligent response. His doctor is on vacation for this holiday. Thank goodness, with a little illegal, monetary push, they get him walking daily with a walker. I try everything. Hope things are a little better your way. Happy 4th. Benie
