    • Close Blindness & Visual Impairment
      Type: ----------

hi. my name is louise & i was born at 24 weeks jestation weighing 1 lb & 6 oz. as a result of this i developed stage 5 retinopathy of prematurity. i am registered as blind but have light, dark, shape & shadow persepsion. even my consultant doesn't know how i can see this much as none of my retina appears to be attached. i read braille & have done since the age of 3, & i also use a white cane & have done since the age of 6. despite all this, i haven't let it get me down & have a number of interests & friends. my family are the best i could have had & they've helped me the most. i've always attended mainstreme education & am really thankfull for it. however, i may be going to a special school for 2 years & don't know whether it'll be good or bad. i would really appreaciate any imput on this topic. i would also like some help on becoming more confident about going out alone & doing things by my self. also i wondered if anyone has any tips on how i can make my muther less scared of me going in to the wide world alone. hope this overview is good enough & that i get some constructive information.

    • Close Diets & Weight Maintenance

my name's louise & i'm 17. i've never been opally thin, but rather plump. i was never called fat or anything as a child, but now i'm starting to feel as though i have exess poundage. i don't like the term puppyfat wich is what my family called it, & yes as i have gotten older i have lost some weight. this is due to the fact that i no longer get as hungry & tend to eat hardly any snacks & around 2 meals per day. this isn't a contious decision, but rather the way my body wants to be. however i'd just like some general advice on maintaining a helthy diet when i do not really eat or like fruit or common vegetables. i like exotic stuff like peppers, chillies & that saut of thing, but i feel that they do not constitute a good diet. i'm also looking to find some exercises that are doable at home, as i am severely visually impaired & my access to places is limited.

    • Open Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

hi. my name's louise & i'm 17. i was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome about a year ago & i'm still trying to grasp it all. i started my periods at the age of 11, & they were never regular. i was always releasing some kind of brown discharge wich just increased once a month. as well as the messed up periods, i have extreme hair growth on my leggs. when i was told i had pcos, i was also told that it was directly linked to my premature birth, & that my hair growth was probably linked to my hormone imbalance caused by pcos. now i just want to know how it will affect me in the future, & whether i will ever be able to come off the contraceptive pill without reverting back to being on a period the month round. also i'd like to know if my chances of having children have been decreased.

      Treatments

      Oral Contraceptives Working / Worked
it has made my periods regular & even, as well as decreasing my hair growth. at first my periods were extremely heavy meaning that much of my outer clothing was soiled & that i couldn't go out, but after about 3 or 4 months, my periods became considerably lighter.
    • Open Family Issues

my names louise & i'm 17. i have a fantastic family & a fantastic relationship with them. my brother is my best friend & he'll do anything for me. my mother is my confidant & i can tell her anything. my farther is my closest friend with that crazy connection that has nothing to do with liking all the same things. my uncle & i connect but we disagree when i win the who's right debate. both my grandmas were the best for real, but now they've left this crewel world for iternal happyness. i miss them greately but the pain eases. the strongest thing in my life is love, & that's my fam.

      Treatments

      Love Working / Worked
if you are loved & love others & your self, you feel things so much more deeply & appreaciate everything. the bond you have with those closest to you is unique & can withstand immense pressure before it breaks - but when it does you know about it & its so painfull.
    • Open Nystagmus

my name is louise & i'm 17. i have nystagmus as a direct result of my rop. this doesn't affect my own ability to focus on something for my brain to register wot i'm seeing, it just looks to otheres as if my eyes are going crazy.

    • Open Retinal Detachment

hi. my name is louise & i'm 17. i have stage 5 retinopathy of prematurity & therefore both my retinas are detached. despite my eye consultant saying i should have no vision at all, i have light, dark, shape & shadow perception. i am here to find others wid similar experiences, & also to see if there are any treatments wich are designed for older people & not just babies.
