    • About Me

I'm a 53 year old woman coping with Chiari, a herniated brain stem and CFIDS. I'm taking a very proactive stand in my treatment, and find it empowering. I have 4 children, 11 grandchildren. I have a husband whom I love with all my heart.

    • Interests

Reading, Writing, Art, Music, Photography. I am an insatiable reader and love to hear about what others are reading. I enjoy writing when the juices are flowing. I love art. While not a great artist, it is a great release. I find the same holds true with photography. I had not been involved with photography for a while, and I'm rediscovering my love.

    • Close Fibromyalgia

I am 51 years old. I have had Fibro/CFS for 12 years. Back then doctors would act as if you were malingering. I had 3 major operations performed by Dr. Rosner. They did not cure me, but I am out of a wheel chair, and most of the time I can speak. I have a good but tired husband, 4 children, 9 grand children, 2 dogs and 2 African Grey Parrots. I take it one day at a time. My sister suffers from this awful disease, and recently a favorite aunt was diagnosed. I look forward to getting to know you.

      Treatments

      Adderall Working / Worked
      Made me feel more addled.
      Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
I live to "work out"in the heated pool at PT. It is wonderful, and if I fall, well I just get wet. LOL
      Cyclobenzaprine Working / Worked
Sometimes it works better than others, but I do try to keep in my system.
      Cymbalta Working / Worked
Not so great for the pain, but I find it an effective Antidepressent.
      Effexor Not Working
      Made me dizzy,had to quit.
      Elavil Somewhat Helpful
Ok, it did help with depression, until I kept eating, and eating and that depressed me.
      Gabitril Not Working
      Did nothing.
      Myofascial Release Working / Worked
This hands on treatment requires a skilled PT who specializes in working with Fibro patients. It helps tremendously.
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
For extreme pain I use it and it works pretty well. I don't expect to be pain free, but it makes it tolerable.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
It helps very much. He is my coach. DH is great but I can let it out with my counselor.
      Prayer Working / Worked
      Physical Exercise Working / Worked
I can only do it in a heated pool, but the feeling of moving w/o pain is wonderful. I love it.
      Xanax Working / Worked
Reluctantly I have begun using Xanax. I was having severe panic attacks, and it does help.
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
      Yes, Yes, Yes!
      Education (School) Working / Worked
I always cope better when I feel informed. I also love the sense of empowerment.
    • Close Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I have Fibro/CFIDS. I was diagnosed about 12 years ago. I take each day one at a time, and sometimes a minute or an hour at a time. I find the DS board very inspirational, and look forward to getting to know all of you better.

      Treatments

      Cymbalta Working / Worked
      Helps with depression.
      Klonopin Somewhat Helpful
I stopped using Klonopin and have better success with Xanax.
      Lexapro Working / Worked
I was on Lexapro for several years and was helpful; Dr. recently changed to Cymbalta and it helps.
      Paxil Not Working
      Zoloft Working / Worked
Made me dizzy, and I don't need more of that.
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
Gentle exercise in heated pool, heat with TENS stimulation, and Myofacial Release. Helps with Stamina.
    • Open COPD & Emphysema

My husband was recently diagnosed. I want to support him, and I feel so helpless. I'm trying to educate myself so I can be the support he needs.

    • Open Caregivers

Actually, my husband has had to do a lot of caregiving for me. I wish he would join this group. He's now ill, and I want to be there for him and still take care of me.

    • Open MRSA

I am concerned about recent news stories....

    • Open Arnold-Chiari Malformation

I had the decompression surgery in 2000. Many symptoms are better, not all still have vein wraaped around stem.

    • Open Financial Challenges

Well, I'm here on Daily Strength and have a chronic disability. I now receive disability which significantly reduced our income. My husband works for the goernment and is retiring at the end of May and again our income will be severely reduced. He has major heart problems, so working longer is not an option. We will have to change our lifestyle dramatically, but I believe it can still be rewarding.

      Treatments

      Budgeting Working / Worked
Holding a Garage Sale Working / Worked
Works pretty well when I've done it, and something my husband is very interested in. He loves ebay.
