I came back to the uk in 2001, after spending 16yrs in South Africa, i quickly got a job and a place to live. Before i left South Africa i decided i was going to start off being a carer and then progress into nursing, i'd already worked for a private lab in South Africa and learnt alot about blood tests etc, so had a good grounding for going into nursing.I got the job as a carer looking after the elderly, everything had gone to plan, a new job, a nice flat and i was going to progress into nursing. But sadly life had other plans, and after working for only 6mnths, i came down with a horrendous flu virus. It was going on for weeks, and i couldn't understand why i wasn't getting better. After going to the drs for the third time, and after trying prednisilone for 3weeks i was eventually refered to the local hospital to see a specialist.Off i toddled to the appointment, and after a hour of discussion of symptoms etc, i was sent for numerous blood tests. After all the blood tests and various hospital appointments, i was referred to "ENERGY FOR LIFE".I eventually started the class, and was horrified to see a GYM, it was a 6week course and i attended for 4weeks, i collapsed doing sit ups and i never went back to finish the course. That programme put me back for weeks and my short term memory loss started.I was put on various drugs, to help with the symptoms, some meds have stayed the same and some have been changed since then, as the illness has progressed. I am still here almost 6yrs later, and hoping for a cure, and then maybe i can work in the health service, and my dream can be fulfilled, well some of it anyway. As if i needed anything else i have just been diagnosed with diabetes Feb.08
