    • About Me

I'm an HR professional, and last year returned to full-time work for a small, growing company. I also have two home-based businesses. I'm married, have three grown children, and one seven-year-old grandchild - also two crazy dogs - can't forget the fur babies! I'm spiritual but not religious, and I practice Buddhism as my primary faith/philosophy, but I also have an interest in Native American and other faith traditions. I was originally attracted to the Eastern religions because of the emphasis on how you treat people. I believe nice matters, especially when the world is such a scary and uncertain place these days.

    • Interests

I love reading, politics, collecting miniatures, music, friends, family, and my dogs. I volunteer - mostly for things I can do on-line or on the computer, like moderating an e-mail list for another health-related support group, and occasionally other activities with non-profits when I'm up to it. I 'm also the group leader for the local fibro support group, with almost 150 members.

    • Close Fibromyalgia

I'm 59, married, mother of three grown children, and have been dealing with fibro for about 15 years, probably more except that I didn't know and wasn't diagnosed.

      Treatments

      Cyclobenzaprine Somewhat Helpful
I can only take it at night, and even then it gives me a sort of "hangover" the next day, but it does help me to get to sleep and helps with the pain somewhat.
      Elavil Somewhat Helpful
I take it at night to sleep - doesn't seem to work as well as it used to.
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
I only take it at night - doctor doesn't like to prescribe it and won't provide refills so I take it only when the pain is really bad, but when I take it, it works.
      Mobic Somewhat Helpful
I take one at bedtime, and I'm still stiff and sore in the morning, but if I run out or forget to take it, I am even worse. I want my Vioxx back!
      Ultram Somewhat Helpful
It helps some - I am less stiff and can actually bend over and pick something up off the floor, but the pain is still not controlled, even though I take this on top of Mobic.
    • Close Depression

      Treatments

      Writing Somewhat Helpful
I've been here for a couple of months, journaling semi-regularly, and I've found it to be somewhat helpful, in that I can focus my thoughts and get more perspective when I put it down "on paper."
      Meditation Somewhat Helpful
      Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
      Prozac Somewhat Helpful
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful

    • Open Myofascial Pain Syndrome

I have had fibromyalgia for years, but in the past year I have learned that not all of my pain is fibro - I also have MFS with trigger points.

      Treatments

      Mobic Working / Worked
This drug keeps some of the pain at bay but I need more. Cant take other NSAIDs due to bleeding issues.
      Tramadol Working / Worked
This is in addition to Mobic. The combination of the two drugs keeps most of my pain under control.
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
This is my breakthrough pain drug. Since starting on Tramadol I take much less Vicodin than I used to unless Im having a super busy day andor on my feet a lot which makes all my knots and trigger points kick in.
