I'm a sophomore, 15 (almost 16) year old girl. I've been dealing with childhood cancer for three years. I love soccer, surfing, and just hanging out with friends. My family, friends, and community has supported me for as long as I can remember. My philosophy is to live life because, like Helen Keller said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing."

Close Teens With Cancer
I was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in 2004, first in my arm. I went through treatment for 11 months and radiation therapy for 6 weeks. The cancer came back 2 months later around my lung. I went through another 9 months of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation. Like before, the cancer came back again this time in the lymph nodes in the center of my lungs, and in the same place that it appeared before around my right lung. Now I am going through more chemotherapy, soon to have surgery.
Treatments
- Radiotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- The radiation on my arm, completely obliterated the cancer cells there. Although, it seemed as if the radiation did not work at all on my lung did not work.
Close Rhabdomyosarcoma
Diagnosed with rhabdo in 2004 in the arm. Relapsed 1st time in 2006 this time in my lung. 2nd relapse in March 2007 again in my lung.
Treatments
- Dactinomycin Somewhat Helpful
- Killed cancer in my arm, but didn't prevent it from spreading to around my right lung.
- Topotecan Not Working
- My least favorite, since it causes a terrible upset stomach. Killed cancer around my lung, but didn't prevent it from relapsing again.
- Vincristine Somewhat Helpful
- Killed cancer in my arm, but didn't prevent it from spreading to around my lung.
- Ifosfamide Working / Worked
- Again, it appears as if this treatment is working. Although, what worries me is this chemo caused leukemia in another case similar to mine.
