Central Illinois has seen just about everything this winter from rain to ice to snow, but today they saw something different coming from the sky...mud.
Meteorologist Sandy Gallant says the heavy winds in central Illinois blew tiny particles of dust thousands of feet into the sky and it collected in the clouds. When it rained, the dust particles turned into a dirty rain. Areas from Dunlap to Pioneer Park to the west and south sides of Peoria to Pekin all reported mud raining down on them this morning about 11:30.
The mud covered trees, homes and vehicles. Some area car washes had long lines as people tried to clean their cars.
In Peoria, Bull Frog Car Wash manager Kevin Sandall says this abnormal weather truly makes it a good Friday for his place of business.
"Well, about an hour ago, some kind of rain came down with a lot of mud on it, with it, and consequently, we are absolutely jammed. I actually called in extra employees so I'm happy."
On an average day, Sandall is used to serving about 20 customers per hour. Today, nearly 100 cars were cleaned in that same amount of time.
