I saw a little bird die Mood
Wednesday, February 27, 2008 | A Sad story
Today I saw a little bird die. It happened so quickly.....that tiny life so quickly diminished by the hunger of another.....Perhaps it felt safe nestled amongst the branches of that giant spruce tree......safe from the cold winds and the animals who prowl at night. Safety within the countless number of others who took refuge there. A friendly tree, welcoming arms to all who seek the fraternity  which lies inside....... Alive during the deepest depths of a cold winter with the happy chatter of birdsong. Like a reunion of old friends after many years have passed......this gentle giant offering welcome to all and a safe harbor. It only took one breath and I saw the falcon descend from heights above........striking into the tree with a furious hunger.......an explosion of birds desperate to escape the grasping claws......except one little bird. I can not remember what kind of bird, a wren....sparrow .....an innocent caught in the clutches of the predator. This daring bird of prey.....so hungry for blood....quickly lands on the snow covered ground.....the tiny bird is still grasped firmly in his talons....he begins to tear at this coveted prize....ripping away at the tiny birds body....feathers and down in a puddle on the ground...blood in the snow. The birds return to the giant spruce tree. It is the only safe refuge they know.

I'm sorry you had to see that. I had to see a baby bird who was trying to learn to fly get attacked by my beloved dog a few years ago. I cried. Hugs, Anglena
