Hi, I saw your post in the self injury group about your daughter and thought I'd send a friend request since I have similar problems. I started cutting and pulling when I was 13. They're both really scary things to see someone go through, but understanding them is really important, and I think its great that you joined the support groups to help your daughter. If you ever need to talk, just send me a message :)

Close Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling)
Type: TrichotillomaniaMy daughter is 14 and has been pulling her hair for over 3 years. She is pull free for 4 months today 3/15/09.
Treatments
- Lexapro Not Working
- We are weaning her off and starting effexor. I don't think she's motivated to quit pulling so the meds will help with anxiety.
- Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
- She needs someone to tell her stuff to and not have to worry about upsetting anyone. She has to go and it does help release some pent up emotions.
- Effexor Working / Worked
- Helped great with the anxiety. Still pulled and gained weight. Stopped over summer and the stress of school was gone. Lost weight and went on a heart medicine to stop the physical effects of anxiety. Came off and worked on 3wk habit reward system. 4months later no pulling. Now on cymbalta for school anxiety. Doing great. Now consequences for not doing school responsibilities. ACCOUNTABILITY

Mother is my qualifier and husband and siblings and half of society. I joined because of my Mom but I'm staying because of my dry drunk of a husband. Totally emotionally immature and not available.

- 12 Step Program Working / Worked
- Alanon is number 1 recovery tool. Talking to program people. I keep my sanity and perspective.
Open Parenting Teenagers (12-18)
Mother of 4. 2 are teens and can't decide if they are mental or am I. Need to learn about what is going on with them is normal and how I don't get sucked in for this temporary crazy time.
