currently I am a stay at home mom with an active Lpn license(maybe I can go back to work in a few years) my daughter was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome around the age of 5 1/2....shock to us, she is 8 now and doing better than we expected in a special program at school...lots of one on one teaching and therapies but it is frustrating that there is not much for her to do on the outside...no play groups, or scouts, people seem afraid of her.....

There is a branch of Tallahassee Autism Support Coallition in PC beach, it is another support group that I think you find benefical. If you can try to make it to the monthly support group, they may have a weekly saturday get together as well. Make this time for just you to go and soak it all in. Eh...I actually went to school and became an OTA since I felt like I did so much OT type stuff to help my son. I have taken some workshops in behavior therapy. I know I'm not an expert...but I do have a behavior plan implemented in the home that I created. Humm...thinking about this aloud to you just helped me to find the flaw in my plan!!...my son's main "currency motivator" which is electronics, has been off limits since his last episode two months ago. He is not able to earn it back as I just confiscated the x box when he put his hand on me last time. Ok...I know what I need to do to get a behavior plan working again. I need to give him a way to earn some electronic priveleges. Whew!!! Sorry so long! thanks for the support!!!!

Thank you for replying to my post about my son! Isn't it common for AS kids to overreact and mispercieve situations? I agree that these are also bipolar traits...but also wondering if you can confirm that they are spectrum traits as well.

- I hope its working...it's what they do with her at school....reward system, treats.....
- Occupational Therapy Working / Worked
- we had a lady some over form the elks to do Ot....short term work , I atill try to work with her on it...may be back when she's older......
- Physical Exercise Working / Worked
- yes, she stays pretty active....pe class at school and such....too hot to do much during the summer outside.....
- Picture / Word Schedules Working / Worked
- It helps some.....she still doesn't pay much attention to them.....none
- Music Somewhat Helpful
- daughter ahs an electronic keyboard and acoustic guitar...assorted cd for listening , she seems to like the release it gives her.
- Pets Working / Worked
- my daughter loves her pets....we have a min schnauzer, beta fish, friendly wild turtles and I think thats enough....they do help her learn empathy....
