About Me
Diagnosed with BP II in May 2007. For years I was told that I was clinically depressed. Took many different medications but attempted suicide on all of them. I went off Celexa cold turkey in Sept 2006, causing the worst depressive episode I've had since 1997. I almost didn't make it through that time. Bipolar is in my family history. My paternal grandmother has it and most of my family has some type of mental issue. Whether it be alcoholism, OCD, anxiety disorders, eating disorders. You name it and I can find someone in the family tree who had it. May and June 2007 were the worst months for me. Now I'm slowly crawling out of the dark hole I dug myself. I went on new meds on June 1st and by July, I was on the right track to feeling more stable.

Close Bipolar Disorder
Always displayed bipolar traits from the time I was a small child. Really started displaying characteristics at the age of 15. I'm 28 now. Was recently diagnosed with Bipolar II disorder. I had always been misdiagnosed as depressed. Having lots of trouble coping with this turn of events.
Treatments
- Lamictal Working / Worked
- Just upped dosage to 150 mg. I'll take this for 30 days and see if it's enough. I started feeling better at 100mg and am very optimistic.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
- In and out, in and out. More than 12 different people I've seen in the timespan of 12 years. I change my therapists like I change my shoes.
- Zoloft Not Working
- Took this for a couple years. Didn't work, just made me a zombie. I was numb to everything.
- Celexa Not Working
- Worked for about six months and then I became severely depressed. Went off cold turkey w/o talking to docter and the withdrawal symptoms were so horrible.
Close Physical & Emotional Abuse
Always involved with guys who abused me physically and emotionally. It left scars that will never fade. Proud to say I became involved with a wonderful man in 2001 and married him, the love of my life, in 2006.
Open Alcoholism
Since the first time I tasted the sweetness on my lips, I knew I was in big trouble. Let's just say alcohol never did me any favors. I've lost countless friends/boyfriends because of my behavior while drinking. I also engage in dangerous and self-destructive behaviors while drinking. I've never been treated because I remain in denial.
Open Accidents
On March 15, 2005 I was rear-ended by a lady going 50-60 miles per hour. I sustained severe whiplash and have suffered ever since from a herniated disc in my C-4, C-5 vertebrae. A long court battle ensued and finally in October of 2006, we were able to settle out of court. I finally got the money I deserved but soon realized that my life would never be the same. I deal with constant pain on a daily basis. Sometimes it is so bad it paralyzes me.
Treatments
- Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- I did three months of physical therapy in the summer of 2005. It seemed to work but I stopped when it got better. Considering going back soon.
- Epidural Injection Working / Worked
- Had a bad episode where I couldn't move for a whole week because my neck/shoulder was so painful. I received three epidural treatments and am able to function again.
- Acupuncture Considering
- Several people have told me to start acupuncture. I am seriously considering this.
Open Hearing Loss & Deafness
I can't hear out of my right ear at all. It happened when I was a baby and it's nerve damage.
Treatments
- Hearing Aids Working / Worked
- I have a digital hearing aide but it has to go inside my ear and causes me to have headaches and ringing.
Open Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Diagnosed at age 15. Definitely freaked out about how this will effect pregnancy when the time comes.
Treatments
- Oral Contraceptives Working / Worked
- I've been on different birth control pills for 12 years now in order to regulate nightmarish periods that were lasting two months. Yasmin is my best friend right now.
