I am 42 and have 3 children. My husband passed away suddenly on May 13, 2007. We were separated as he was dealing with his addiciton to prescription pills. He left me a legacy of 3 beautiful children to raise (11, 5 and 3) and so many unresolved issues.

We are both very fortunate to have been gifted our gifted Aspergers' children, I like to refer to it as Bill Gates Syndrome. Close Alcoholism
I have been in recovery of alcoholism since November 1988. My husband was in recovery for 20 years and then started using prescription drugs. They took his life. My faith in my program and higher power helps me to sustain my sobriety one day at a time. My children are small and it is hard to get to meetings and share in a way I would like to. Working my program and reaching out to others works for me.
Treatments

- Learning the steps and applying them to my life has allowed me to have a life.
- AA Meetings Working / Worked
- The fellowship of the program and connections I have made keep me coming back. The yets that I hear in meetings help them from becoming my reality.
Close Bereavement
Type: Loss of a Partner/SpouseMy husband Michael passed away on May 13, 2007. We were separated due to his prescription drug addiction and he was trying to get help but it was too powerful for him. He mixed antidepressants with pain medication and it took his life suddenly. He gave more to me and his 3 children than he ever know. I have never felt so alone in my life. 18 years together and all gone in an instant. I miss him.
Treatments
- Crying Working / Worked
- I can't stop and sometimes it hurts and sometimes it helps.
- Grief Counseling Working / Worked
- I have a really good therapist and I am not ready to do the grief work yet. She was helping me deal with the pain the addiction brought to our lives.
- Prayer Working / Worked
- It keeps me standing upright when I want to fall down. Very important to me.
- Support Groups Working / Worked
- Have attended through hospice and I didn't think it would work but it did and I met some great people that walk in my shoes.
Open Celiac Disease
My son suffers from a gluten intolerance and has Aspergers. He does well on the gluten free diet but is only 11 and it is hard. We just lost his Dad and he is a stress eater so it is hard to help him maintain his diet.
Treatments
- Gluten Free Diet Working / Worked
- This has helped my son so much but at 11 it is hard to help him understand why he can't eat regular kid foods he loves!
Open Families & Friends Of Addicts
I am a recovering alcoholic and my husband who was addicted to prescription meds passed in May. His active addiction and now his death from addiction have had a life changing impact on the kids and I and we are all struggling to find a new normal.

- I have attended group in the past but not as much these days since my husband, who was the addict, died from his addiciton.
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- I have been working with a therapist for more than a year for how addiction has hurt my life and my kids. It helps because she is the right fit for me.
- Writing Working / Worked
- I try to write something each day and keep a journal of how things are going. I don't always manage each day but when I do it helps.
Open Single Parenting
Single mom to 3 kids, 12, 6 and 4. Widowed almost a year now and learning how to manage.
