I am sober 14 years. I got sober trying to get my mother sober. She died February 2007 as a direct result of use & abuse of alcohol. My father was a wonderful example of recovery, I lost him recently. I plan on continuing to stay sober one day at a time. I am married 9 years to another recovering alcoholic and we have 2 children here on earth and one in heaven.
Treatments
- 12 Step Program Working / Worked
- AA works. Bring the body and the mind will follow. Meeting makers make it.
- AA Meetings Working / Worked
- Go for the wrong reason if you have to, hopefully you'll stay for the right reason.
Close Food Addiction
My sugar addiction is killing me. I'm sober 14 years, but the food addiction I can't seem to kick. I knew when I was a child that my obsession with food wasn't normal, but I didn't know there was such an addiction until I was an adult. Well, I've known for 20 years now.
Treatments
- Overeaters Anonymous (OA) Somewhat Helpful
- I went to my first OA meeting when I was 23. I knew it was what I needed but never really did the full abstinance thing. I tried again a few years later, after 5 months of abstinence I had a a complete sugar relapse, that was about 80 or 90lbs ago.
Open Bereavement
My father was a tough Marine and a gentile giant; a 6'4" Irishman with an Irish will. The man survived 2 cancers, a heart attack and 4 years of dialysis; I never thought an infection would do him in.
