Ileostomy Mood
Friday, May 30, 2008 | A General Update story
I had an ileostomy on Oct. 26, 2007.   I had ulcerative colitis for 29 years and bowen's disease for 3 years.  My large colon and rectum were removed so I will have to wear a pouch forever.  I had a very hard time getting used to the pouch and finding the right type. I lost 14 pounds since the surgery (I was only 124lbs before). I can't gain any weight no matter how much I eat. I wish I could as I am too thin now.  I had a bad cold in Feb. that lasted for weeks and turned into pneumonia.  I was hospitalized for treatment and after being home for a week I was feeling sick again with fever, chills and low BP.  Back to the hospital.  I had a blood infection which I may have gotten through my dialysis line (port).  More anti-biotics and now I'm feeling great. My daughter and I can start getting tested for a kidney transplant.  I have been doing my own hemo-dialysis for 4 1/2 years now and I am very tired and want to be free of it.
