After 7 long painful years, I can say with great relief that my level of neuropathic phatom limb pain has begun to decrease. I have now begun to get out and do things, pick up the hobbies and fun stuff of the old life.
It is a great relief and a lot of amputees, told me that it may take up to 10 years for pain to subside, and I find that they are correct in there description of how the pain will begin to decrease and how much self discipline will be required on my part to just keep taking the drugs because I enjoy them or feel that I am entitled to them. Well I never did enjoy them because over time, I became immune to any kind of joy, and I know that is the wrong description, but the head injury and the side effects on ones brain, because of taking class III, opiate based narcotic pain killers for several years, can have on your memory, and spelling skills, just to mention a few of the damages the drugs cause. I just read the last sentence and it doesn't even make sense to me, and I wrote it! See what I mean, it is the long term side effects of the drugs, and the pain.

But Jim, it is worth the confusion to get the drugs out of your system. Hope you are using a doctor. I was on the same drug for 7 years. Detox was awful but I quit cold turkey.
