About Me
I retired in 2005, had been working in the medical field in a small clinic in a large city in MN. I remarried and am now in a small town of about 8, 000 people in WI.. I find myself bored 95% of the time. My closest child is 4 hours away. Although I keep in contact with family members via email, I do miss them. I have two adopted children and 5 stepchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren and four brothers & sisters.

Interests
I love the computer. I published a Family Cook Book in 2007 that I'd been working on for a year. I'm now working on "my life story" and have asked my siblings to do the same, so we can put them together for our kids and grandkids. I also like to read books, crochet, cook and bake, and watch TV. Travel during the summer, day trips mostly. Have lots of house plants, used to have flower garden but had to give that up with age, too hard on the knees!

Ray of Sunshine
I would give anything for sunshine right now.Our high today is supposed to be 57* and rainy...the temp right now at 830am in almost 70* and windy...supposed to dip down 25* by tonight..I am kinda thinking we're going to get a storm today...cooler tomorrow...just in time for trick-or-treaters...poor kids.
Thanks for the support about work.It was nice to hear that I did something good.I have never had a job where I felt like I really belonged before. It's kinda nice.
You take care and have a good weekend...
Hug
It would be nice to get someone to come in a few hours a week like my neice Nickie used to do (she was so unreliable about showing up that I let her go). I do worry more about him then I used to even when I make short trips to check mail.
It is scarey wondering what they will decide to try when your gone but for the most part Neal won't try something if he thinks he can't do it or is afraid of it and that is something of a blessing, far to many people with alzheimers don't realize they can't do things and keep on trying anyway.
I'm hopeing with the kids living back out here I will be able to leave him home with them once in awhile if I need to do things. It would be good for them to get a real taste of daily life wiht dad too.
Hug
I tried riding my bike and it hurts so bad,but I kept going. This has been keeping me awake too...but I think my doc doesn't believe me and maybe thinks I just want drugs..well,I do just want drugs...to make the pain go away.It sucks to hurt this bad and not be able to do anything about it.Better day tomorrow....
Hug
That's really weird about you getting my journals all in one day.I hope they get it fixed.
My fibro is acting up big time and my lower back is the worst. My friend from Missouri told me about this IcyHot stuff that comes in a 43"roll and looks like an Ace Bandage and you can tear it however big or small you need it and I have been using it a couple days.It doesn't do enough but it is better than nothing...I wonder if they could do a nerve block down there.I would love to have one. It's my lower back about where my hips would be.I want to cry.It even wakes me up.I need to keep moving.Have you gotten any snow??I saw some flakes Saturday...
Rainbow
Here's a hug for you today....say am interested in the cook book you created....is it online to view?

Close Asthma
Type: Cough Variant AsthmaWhen I was young I had allergy's, now I have Asthma and no allergy's. Also have sleep apnea. I worked at a casino for about 5 years, I developed Asthma while there, doctor blamed the cigarette smoke. Put me on inhalers. Quit working there 5 years ago. 2 years ago I had a bad Asthma attack, was given Advair at that time. Been doing OK since, unless I go where there is smoke. I don't use my inhalers much anymore.
Close Arthritis
I have had Arthritis for quite a few years. Fingers bother me the most, knuckles swollen and won't bend anymore, very painful in the morning, hard to get dressed.
Treatments
- Glucosamine/Chondroitin Somewhat Helpful
- Knees seem to be a little less painful since I'm on it.
- Ibuprofen Somewhat Helpful
- It seems to ease the pain.
- Naproxen Working / Worked
- I don't like taking so many meds, so try not to take it unless I can't handle the pain.
- Relafen Working / Worked
- Have taken it in the past.
- Tylenol Not Working
- Doesn't really help much.
Open Sleep Apnea
I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. I had snored my whole life I think. My daughter brought it to my attention when we had to share a hotel room in MI while attending my niece's wedding. She told me I scared her because I stopped breathing. Had a sleep study done a couple months later, and now have a CPAP machine.
Treatments
- CPAP Working / Worked
- I had a hard time at first, kept getting condensation in the hose and would taKe it off during the night but finally got that problem solved. Now I wear it all night. Don't like the full-face masks though, I'm a "side-sleeper" and they don't work well, keep losing air.
Open High Cholesterol
I have had high cholesterol for about 12 years. I have tried a number of meds, still haven't found one that really works. Stopped taking meds in 2005 for about 6 months, watched my diet and exercised, count shot up out of control again, so am back on the meds again.
Treatments
- Advicor Not Working
- Very BAD reaction from it. Refused to continue it,doctor got upset with me.I thought I was dying, felt like I was burning up, lasted over an hour every night.
- Fish Oil Working / Worked
- I take it everyday, hope it's working!!
- Lipitor Working / Worked
- Lowered my count but had terrible nightmares from it.
- Physical Exercise Too Soon to Tell
- I go to the gym 3xs a week, do weights and treadmill.
- Pravachol Working / Worked
- Seems to be working but doctor has doubled my dose, count still too high. Am watching my diet and exercising, will find out next week if it's working.
- Zocor Working / Worked
- It worked but developed weak and painful muscles, could hardly climb stairs to my apartment.
Open Step Families
I was remarried 2 1/2 years ago to a widower with 5 kids and 10 grandkids. It's the 3rd marriage for me and 2nd for him. I have 2 kids from a previous marriage. We live in the house that he has lived in for 70 years, with pictures of his family including late wife all over the walls. I took some down and sensed disapproval from the kids. It's hard to try and build a new life together when they want everything to stay the same.
Open Adoption
I'm the mother of two grown children who are adopted. My son is 40, married and living in South Dakota. He is a Detective with the police Dept there. My daughter will be 37 in April, single and living in MN. They were both born in MN and adopted there. My son seems to be happy and as far as I know has no desire to find his birth parents. My daughter now lives in the same city where she was born. She has requested her medical history but has not expressed a desire to find her birth parents.
Open Degenerative Disc Disease
Have been having low back pain for quite a few years. Worked as a nurses aid years ago, had a back injury from lifting people, finally had to give up that type of work. This last week my doctor informed me I have DDD. She ordered PT for 4 weeks and pain meds. The pain meds make me nauseated. Doc said I'm probably looking at surgery down the road. I'm wondering if there are alternatives!!
Open Meniere's Disease
I have just been diagnosed with Menieres. Have had Vertigo attacks off and on since 1991. This time I've had it for a month!
Treatments
- Antivert Working / Worked
- Seems to help, couldn't function without it.
- Low Salt Diet Considering
- My doc suggested this. Am going to try it.
Open Dizziness & Vertigo
I have had Vertigo attacks for quite a few years. Always took Meclizine. Someone suggested a Chiropractor, did that and didn't have any attacks for two years. A month ago had another. Now my doc is sending me to Physical Therapy. She's teaching me exercises to do when I get it.
Treatments
- Antivert Working / Worked
- Has been working great but makes me sleepy.
- Vestibular Exercises Too Soon to Tell
- Just started them a week ago.
Open Medicare
I have been on Medicare for 7 years now. Also have BC/BS.
Open Senior Health & Aging
Type: Aches & PainsI hate to admit I'm old but seems since I retired 3 years ago, I've been going down hill!! If it isn't one thing it's another! The body just won't do the things it used to.
Treatments
- Physical Therapy Not Working
