About Me
I am 32, used to be a Science teacher, married with cats. I hurt my back 4 years ago and my life has changed completely. I'm stuck at home and daytime tv is turning my brain to mush. theres only so much old gerry springer you can watch. My pain is constant but i hate taking tablets. Ive put on weight since i hurt my back which i;m trying to lose so i can have a baby but i keep getting infection after infection which makes it impossible to diet so how do i lose weight if i cant exercise much?

i love reading, cinema, movies, learning (anything), sewing, animals, socialising, pretty much anything except extreme sports. going for a walk is an extreme sport for me now! i love shopping, theatre, Shakespeare and friends.

Close Chronic Pain
I hurt my back 4 years ago, i dont know how. Had 3 prolapsed discs and arthritis. They tried various treatments but i ended up on crutches for 2 years. Became agony to walk last year and eventually got emergency discectomy and laminectomy in Dec 2006. Can walk better now but back pain is still chronic and get all sorts of wierd nerve pain in legs. Since op get infections all the time because immunity so rubbish.
Treatments
- Chiropractic Adjustment Too Soon to Tell
- Sometimes helped when pain was very bad but it sometimes made it worse so i'm not very helpful here!
- Ultram Somewhat Helpful
- takes the edge off average pain
- Voltaren Working / Worked
- had to stop because of stomach problems
- Fentanyl Working / Worked
- Worked very well as pain killer but slept a lot, also very addictive so try not to use unless emergency
- Morphine Working / Worked
- useful for bad pain flare ups. again makes sleepy but does help muscles spasms as you relax
- Valium Working / Worked
- helps when back is in spasm as makes relax, again makes drowsy. v. addictive.
- Elavil Working / Worked
- works really well at low doses as reducer of nerve pain. On this constantly as pain in legs is terrible without.
Close Back Pain
In short i hurt my back 4 years ago. it got much worse. Rubbish doctors, very unhelpful ( turn to God, you just have a low pain threshold) I lost the ability to walk last september and was drugged up to the eyeballs and finally got an emergency laminectomy and discectomy on christmas eve. I can now walk but back pain is constant and terrible nerve pain in legs. cant work and very bored.
Treatments
- Acupuncture Not Working
- Chiropractic Adjustment Too Soon to Tell
- sometimes good sometimes made it worse. sorry not very helpful.
- Cortisone (Injection) Working / Worked
- great injections but only worked for a month.
- Fentanyl Working / Worked
- brilliant pain killer but gave me hallucinations (which were actually quite fun) and made me sleep a lot.
- Physical Therapy Working / Worked
- definitely has helped improve balance and core stability and gentle exercise does help. Difficult bit is not to do too much otherwise end up in agony.
Open Hypothyroidism
I have only just been diagnosed with an underavtive thyroid
Open Infertility
WE have been trying but my husband is subfertile. Hes been through an operation which made no difference and we have been refused help by the NHS. Having a couple more tests then on to ICSI. I'm very depressed i want a baby so much.
