Whirlwind week Mood
Thursday, May 29, 2008

I know I haven't had a chance to get on recently. I'm not at school anymore and to get on the computer at home I have to go down to the basement which is a construction zone right now and I don't want to be down there too long with all the dust and insulation and such. So here's whats been happening this past week.

Its official! I finished my thesis and turned in my keys. I'm all done and all thats left is to attend graduation in June that my parents are flying up for! Thats a great feeling so I'm home more now. I still have a part time job there that is only 1 or 2 weeks a month. Next week I will be working but its only from 1:30 - 4:30 so the hours are really great too.

Stephen is continuing on the basement and he is making me nervous that he won't get it done before the baby comes. Right now all the stuff from the basement is sitting in what wil become the nursery. It took him and his dad a whole day to stud one wall (of couse they put the electrical and plumbing back in so I could do laundry again so I guess only getting one wall done in one day isn't that bad). So all the furniture thats still down there that they didn't want to move (and we have no where else to put it) is pulled away from the wall and stacked in the middle of the basement. The computers are down there too and I don't like going down there. I have to navigate over and around alot of junk to get to the computers so I'm not on going to be on here much anymore but I'll still try to pop on once or twice a week. I just hope he gets most of it finished before the baby comes so we can still have time to paint and decorate the nursery.

On Monday and Tuesday, we had a bit of a scare with our dog Samson. He started throwing up on Friday but we thought he was fine. Dogs throw up occasionally if they get into something. Well, it continued through the weekend. It was only once or twice a day and he was still acting like himself all full of energy. I thought everything was fine. He even had his yearly appointment and all his shots on Saturday (that was pricey). Well, then Monday night, he started throwing up alot more and he couldn't even keep down liquids. Tuesday morning I called the vet and told her whats been going on and she said get him there ASAP. She examed him and decided to do some X-rays. The first X-ray didn't look so good so she did another a few hours later and that had improved. He had alot of gas build up in his abdomen. We thought he might have had a blockage in his system. Well, they gave him an IV to get some fluids in him quickly and sent him home with a ton of medication and speical food. He seems to be doing better now. He threw up once yesterday but I think its because I fed him too close to his medicine that he's supposed to get on an empty stomach. There are like 3 medications he's supposed to get at certain intervals through out the day. It was so confusing that I had to make a chart. Its a good thing I can stay home with him this week. So this was a $500 vet bill on top of his yearly exam over the weekend which was $300. I know its alot but I'm just glad that he's doing better.

Thats only part of our unexpected expenses this month. I hope we are still doing ok. We also had alot of expenses with the basement and I started buying stuff for the baby and I needed to get some stuff for the guest room for when my parents come to visit for my graduation next month. The next two months are going to be expensive too with my parents coming and in July we are taking a road trip out to my brother's wedding in seattle (we are coming from Southern Ontario so we are in between Michigan and New York). So thats quite the road trip. Especially with the rediculous price of gas these days. I hope we will be ok. We still have to figure out finances for when the baby comes. Stephen wanted to take about a month or so off of work to be home with me and the baby. Well, he just found out that he will only get paid by employment insurance which will barely cover our morgage. So I"m not sure what we will do. I think its important to him to take some time off. I think we will try to save up some money now so we can live for about a month and a half so he can take off. I"m not sure how that will work but I guess we will figure it out. Stephen is really good with money.

Well, I want to end this journal entry on a high note. We finally decided on a name for our little man! Its Alexander Cameron Thorne. I wanted Cameron which I always thought of as a boy's name but Stephen said everytime he heard it he though of Cameron Diaz. So we compromised and made it the middle name (I only hope that means I get to pick the first name for our next one!) I hope all my DS friends are doing ok.

I was just thinking of you when I saw you had written in your journal.
Wow...I hope your dog continues to improve, poor thing! Dogs are just as expensive as babies, but they are so great. I had a black lab named Suzy growing up.
Congrats on your upcoming graduation!! That is so great, you should be so proud of yourself.
I like the name you guys choose, you can call him Alex. I am so exicted to see him now. :)
    Take care and big hugs

Glad things are going well. I hope that you can get all the construction done in time for baby. Hope your doggy starts feeling better soon.
