We are at that time of year here in Florida... fire season. Since we don't have normal seasons here I guess we needed a new one. It replaces Spring. Alligator Alley is our main thoroughfare from the East coast to the West coast. It's how people get from our area to Miami and it sure does get alot of traffic. About half way between here and there a fire started a few days ago. Probably from a careless motorist tossing out a cigarette butt because we haven't had any rain storms to produce the dangerous lightening lately. They closed the alley for a couple days beacause of the smoke and visabilty issues. Now they have it opened up only during the day. The fire is about an hour and a half drive from us. They say there are only a couple houses that they are watching just in case. So the fire is mostly purging the underbrush and not causing any structural damage, which is a good thing. Nature needs to clean herself every once in awhile. The downfall is that it has been very windy lately. Of course the wind is out of the East and blowing our way. We wake up most mornings to the smell of smoke now. Some nearby towns even have ash floating around. It always surprises me how far this stuff will actually travel. We are on a health advisory for anyone with respiratory problems. We are all grounded until firther notice. At least I'm off this weekend and can stay inside in the ac. I was planning on cleaning out the garage, but that can wait. I wasn't really looking forward to it anyways.
Hope evryone has sunshine today,
Robin

First...
I'm heading back to work tonight after a very, very, very...nice vacation. I was going to cancel this vacation due to financial reasons but decided not to. I'm so glad I decided to take it. I know physically and emotionally I needed it. I enjoyed it thoroughly too. At first I took it easy trying to recouperate from the latest asthma attack. I did some light cleaning around the house. I was able to get some cooking done too. I also did a little packing. We are planning on moving in the next few months. It will be either locally or a big move to Tennessee. I'm hoping for the latter. It all depends on if everything falls into place like I need it to. Later in the week I was able to get some crafting done too. I made a few sock monkeys, a couple quilt tops, and even got some hand sewing done in front of the boob tube at night. All in all a great week.
I finished my prednisone taper on Wednesday. Everything was good until Friday night. I noticed I managed to pick up a little cough. Uh OH, that's never a good sign. On Saturday, I could feel my chest start to tighten. Not good. Used my inhaler hoping to get it under control. Sunday rolls around a couple times during the day I noticed my voice started to go again. My poor Hubby had a scared look in his eyes. I can't believe it is happening again either. I used the inhaler last night and again this morning. I'm going to give it a couple days and see if I can get it under control. If not, I will defintely be calling the doctor's office to see what they think. I know in my heart that I did not over do it this week. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The weather has been steady. I haven't been around any major triggers either. I guess I'm just broken lol.
It seems that once I stop taking the prednisone, the tightness comes back in a couple days. Sounds like it is time to rework the meds again :( Not a happy camper today.
I hope veryone else is having a good day.

p.s. For some strange reason I can't seem to change my smiley guy. I feel a bit bad but I wanted a little yellow smiley guy today. Oh well.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your vacation. We all need a little R and R every now and then. (or in my case, all the time).
I find that I'm always more susceptible to asthma flare ups after a major exacerbation. I guess the big attacks take more out of us than we think. I'm sorry that you are starting to feel poorly again. Maybe your proactive approach will work. If not, then it's time to see the doc again.
I look forward to our vacation in May. Believe it or not, this retirement is hard on a guy.
Be well,
Tom

I'm familiar with CA fires and it is most unpleasant for me out there when they occur. I get what you mean about seasons. Here, too! Yup, staying inside in AC sounds the best approach. There is nothing we can do if we can't breathe out there. Stay safe and glad it is far enough from you not to be an immediate hazard. Still, when the wind blows it can be just as deadly to us. Hugs of fresh air to you! Thanks too for your comments on my journal and on the message board. Your voice is always a calming one to me. Thanks again.

I'm glad that you are not affected by the fires so far. I think that you are right though to limit your outdoor activity. It must be hard living there in the spring.
On a personal front, I'll be in the Ormond Beach area in early May. I hope the fires will be under control by then. (For everyone's sake...not just my own. Although I must admit that there is a healthy dose of self interest in my hope. )
Do what you have to in order to be safe. Things can go bad quickly so..
Be Careful,
Tom

Thanks Rona, I'm glad my "voice" is calming to you.
Tom, I'm sorry to say you may have a few concerns when you come down in May. It's just around the corner and I doubt we will get much rain before then. Our fire situation right now really depends on how the people treat their environment. Lit cigs and lawn mowers and also cars cause most of our fires. They tell you not to start any vehicles on the grass and of course not to throw out your cig butts at all because they can relight themselves. Once it starts to rain then we have to worry about the lightening especially since we are the lightening capital.
