    • Close Chronic Pain

I have been medically released from the Canadian Military (on 6 Dec 07) where I have served for 10 years as a Clerk. This is quite the shock for me as I had always thought the military would be my life-long career. About two years ago I started getting headaches and migraine headaches that stemmed from chronic Myofascial Pain (diagnosed much later) I started suffering daily and eventually I could no longer work. I have a husband that is very supportive but also at a loss on how to help.

      Treatments

      Acupressure Somewhat Helpful
This works better than regular massage it is less aggressive. It is based on the Chinese philosophy of acupressure through use of pressure applied to Meridians to treat.
      Chiropractic Adjustment Somewhat Helpful
Some chiropractors have been helpful and others oversimplify treatments.
      Inderal Not Working
Not using anymore. This is also used for heart patients with hight BP. This just made me light headed.
      Oxycodone Somewhat Helpful
Actually Oxycocet. Helpful at times of severe pain. One of my last resorts so I don't end up in ER.
      Topamax Not Working
Not using this anymore. It was supposed to be a preventative treatment to reduce migraine headache. I just suffered the side effects of the medication.
      Verapamil Not Working
Not using anymore. Didn't work, just side effects were experienced.
    • Close Migraine Headaches

About two years ago I started having Chronic Daily Headaches and Migraine Headaches that seemed to stem from Chronic Myofascial Pain that started in my neck and upper back. Of course it took quite a while for doctors to take me seriously, especially since I was serving in the military.

      Treatments

      Imitrex Not Working
This just did not work at all for me...I can't take this type of med any longer because of the type of migraines I have (basilar) but some triptans did work...this was not one of them.
      Acupuncture Somewhat Helpful
      Amerge Somewhat Helpful
Can't take anymore because I was diagnosed with Basilar Migraines, this only work part of the time anyway.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't matter what I do a migraine comes anyway. MSG is my biggest trigger identified so far (besides the other Chronic Pain)
      Axert Somewhat Helpful
Can't take anymore because of diagnosis of Basilar Migraine. I can't take any triptans or ergotmines because of basilar migraines. Only worked part time anyway.
      Botulin Toxin Somewhat Helpful
Somewhat helpful. It does take several weeks to take effect, then only last a couple of weeks. Its' effects are more of a toning down rather than elimination.
      Imitrex Not Working
This just did not work at all for me...I can't take this type of med any longer because of the type of migraines I have (basilar) but some triptans did work...this was not one of them.
      Inderal Not Working
Did not work. Once again a drug with lots of side effects with no help for breakthrough pain and migraine.
      Magnesium Considering
      Naproxen Not Working
This one did a number on my stomach. Gave me heartburn and was about as effective as Advil.
      Neurontin Not Working
Didn't work. It just gave me too many side effects.
      Relpax Somewhat Helpful
This did work for a while but not as well as other "triptan" type meds. Although because of my type of migraine I cannot take this type of med any longer.
      Topamax Not Working
Did not work. For preventative treatment of migraines. No longer on it , tried it twice. I was left with awful side effects.
      Tylenol Not Working
This sometimes works when taken with other drugs such as heavier hitting narcotics such as dilaudid or percocet. Taken by itself, I might as well not bother.
      Zomig Somewhat Helpful
This worked 50% of the time for severe migraines if I caught them on time...however not all of them. Can't take this type of med because of type of migraines (basilar) that I have been diagnosed with.
      Celexa Not Working
This did not work. I was prescribed this for both my chronic pain in neck and upper back that I believe contribute to migraines. However, it worked "diddly nothin'" for me.
    • Open Vegetarians & Vegans

I was a "veg head" as a teen for personal and environmental reasons. I got away from it and returned to the lifestyle 2 years ago again for personal (including health) and environmental reasons. I am not a vegan, I still consume some amounts of dairy and eggs.

      Treatments

      Patience Working / Worked
