Hi All!
Wow, I am realizing I really need to make the time to journal. I feel so out of touch! Been very busy working 2 jobs - JCPenneys and as a home health aide for the hospital. I had a home visit yesterday from 8-11am, then worked at Penneys from 12:30 - 6:30. Plus Saturday I worked 7:30a - 4:p. Not huge hours, but when you have psoriatic ra and lupus, it wears on your body!
I have a question for you all, and would LOVE your feedback. My oldest son Cody is graduating from high school May 23. We are planning on having an open house here on June 21. I need ideas from anyone who has ever had an open house. The menu is what I am stuck on........ I want something simple, but good (sounds impossible to me!) I don't have any family that will help, so it will be the boys and Bruce and I, and I really want to enjoy the day, not be running all over, ya know? I have a couple friends who are going to help, which I totally appreciate, but I just don't want to over-do it - been to lots of those and it is so much work and the parents don't get to enjoy themselves. We are going to get a root beer keg (no alcohol) and a bouncy house - my friend was at an open house last year and said that kept the little kids and the big kids busy and having a blast. Yep, even the high school kids! Other than that, I am stuck. Oh, obviously I will have tons of pics ;) Want to think of something unique for the centerpieces, too.............. like I have the time to do this, but I am going to do it and I want it special for Cody!
Hope you all are doing well........... it is so nice to finally see some sun and feel a little tiny ray of warmth! On my way to work....... Laura

Howdy all! I can't believe I haven't been on here to journal since Dec. 12. So much has happened........ my tumors were benign, thank God, and am all healed from the surgery. My family and I all have been struggling with the respitory flu for the past 4, yes 4! weeks! We were all flat down for over a week. I missed a week of work - I have NEVER missed a week of work! But then again, I cannot remember feeling so sick ever! 104 fever, chills, sweats, headache, and that darn heavy chest and coughing coughing coughing! My chest is still sore from all the coughing, after 4 week! You would think I am a smoker to hear me! The boys and Bruce are on the mend and the days are getting longer here in Michigan, so spring is coming, I just know it is!
My dysfunctional family saga continues - my mother has ended up living with my sister. The boy (my brother) whom she adores well, um, let's just say she moved into their home to full time "babysit", well, they kicked her out (after she had rented out her home!) Yep, right before Christmas.........she still claims that they didn't kick her out, she left, but we know the truth. So, my sister who hadn't spoken to me in 3 months and my mom in 1 yr, offered her to move into with her, since she has no hubby/kids. So, the other day, I just picked up the phone and called my mom. I know her cancer is spreading and I just feel so guilty not talking to her, even though she is poisonous to me and my family. She is a bitter woman, and is not very happy, and sometimes I think she is downright jealous that my life is turning out ok. So, I am trying..........I am going into this realizing I cannot do a damned thing to change her, I can only change the way I REACT to her.......lots easier said than done![]()
Still working retail (what a hard way to make a living
) Thanks goodness my check just covers groceries and gas.......barely barely barely! I am enjoying being back in the work force because retail is so busy and the time flies. I work with some really nice people
I finally got my Enbrel ok'd by my insurance company, and guess what? I took the first shot, then ended up with the flu 3 days later. It took my immune system so low. My doc says it's because I have lupus with the psoriatic ra, I guess that can be tricky. All I want is to feel better!![]()
Hope you all are doing well!

There have been times when I was on the Enbrel that I got sick and had to go off it until I got better. I have heard that this year's flu is quite bad. I really hope you are all getting on the mend. About 4 years ago, my family caught the flu bug and my husband and daughter were over it in 2 days. Mine lasted a week! Most likely due to the Lupus. I wish you had a better experience with the Enbrel, or maybe are willing to try again if your doctor's thinks so. We have in common that we have both SLE and Psoriatic Arthritis and it really has helped me a lot. My skin issues improved and I am in less pain when I am on it. While you were recuperating, I lost the Enbrel for 9 weeks because my insurance company was denying it. I guess I don't blame them as it is $2,500 a month! It was good hearing from you again! I hope you have a better rest of the year! :) Cheryl

Fried chicken brought in with salads are always good. Also italian beef. You can either buy it and prepare yourself in a slow cooker ( that way it will stay hot) cut up small pieces of french bread. Also a fruit and a cheesetray. There is a place called incrediable edibles that makes fresh fruit arrangements look like flowers. Visit there website, really great fruit and so pretty. Of course a big sheet cake it is easy to cut and feeds alot of people. Personally I went with the fried chicken at an open house with salds and rolls. I ordered mine from Brown's but you could do the same at KFC. For italian beef if you ahve a smas club you can buy vienna frozen. Get a few boxes and toss in slow cooker. Easy and always good. Taffy apple salad is also a hit. Hope something in my suggestion sounds good. ((hugs))marcia
