Close Thyroid Cancer
Type: Papillary CarcinomaApril 2009 will be five years since my original diagnosis; as of now (12/08) everything is right where it should be, and there's no recurrence. Thank you God!
Treatments
- Radiotherapy Working / Worked
- Had a dose of I131 large enough to keep me in isolation overnight at the hospital. Seemed to do what it was supposed to.
Close Bereavement
Type: Loss of a ParentParents are "guidance counselors" of life, and I was blessed to have a couple of the best! Love you all...and thank you for everything!
Treatments
- Keeping Busy Somewhat Helpful
- The hobbies help me remember Ma, who taught me almost all of them. Bummer that I can't call her for help, tho!
- Pets Working / Worked
- They ALWAYS make me feel better.
- Prayer Working / Worked
- It usually morphs into conversations with one of them, which is even better.
- Reading Working / Worked
- Unfortunately, this has made me feel like an expert in dealing with the death of loved ones.

- I try to remember the best of everything; sometimes it hurts and sometimes it helps.

Open Depression
Type: Clinical (Major) DepressionBeen battling major clinical depression for years. I HATE having to take pills to feel like a human being, but if I don't, I am the most evil witch around.
Treatments
- Effexor Working / Worked
- Have been on 300mg daily for a couple of years now. Tried to get off of them myself (BAD move), and had nothing but nightmares and upset everybody around me for days.
- Sleep Working / Worked
- I LOVE SLEEPING! I could stay in bed all day. It's such a great escape from everything. I wonder if anyone is doing a study on sleep that I could volunteer for?
Open Financial Challenges
Probably the same as everyone else - my DH and I both had good-paying jobs which ended. We're still working, but at lower salaries. Unfortunately, our bills are still at that higher-paying level.
Treatments
- Credit Counseling Not Working
- We were told by a mortgage broker that seeing this on your credit report is as bad as bankruptcy, so we stopped.
- Budgeting Not Working
- I've set up more budgets than I can count. I'd like to find one that takes everything into account, like unexpected illnesses with no insurance!
