Married with a 5 1/2 yr. old son, and a 4 1/2 yr. old daughter (diagnosed with Autism 4-2-07). My daughter attends Rivers Bend Academy in Suffolk, Virginia. My son will go to first grade this fall.. My husband is in the US Coast Guard. We moved to Virginia from Western NY in June. I am a stay at home mom.

Happy mothhers day Also youcan get alot of info from www.tacanow.org They have alot of info on DAN protocol doing it on a budget. Just be careful make sure you see if he has alot of good recomendations just do good research. I wish you all the luck with your daughter

I have a 5 1/2 yr. old son Glenn and a 4 1/2 yr. old daughter Daphne, diagnosed with Autism on 4-2-07. I still have a lot of questions, and need support. (My husband and I both do!!!) Every day I wonder what could have caused my daughter to be Autistic, and it drives me CRAZY.
Treatments
- ABA Working / Worked
- Daphne started receiving ABA in April, and it really helped her. I would recommend it to any parent with an Autistic child.
- Occupational Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- Sign Language Not Working
- My daughter now knows over 25 signs. I hope she will learn a lot more since she is still non-verbal.
- Speech Therapy Not Working
- My daughter has been receiving Speech Therapy since Feb. 2007, and her speech has not improved much.. I am really worried. All she ever says is "Mama" (even calls my husband Mama at times). Once in a great while she'll say "hi", "bye" or "wow". She is still considered non verbal at age 4 1/2.
Close Parenting Preschoolers (3-5)
I AM THE MOTHER OF TWO CHILDREN, A SON AGE 5 1/2, AND A DAUGHTER WHO IS 4 1/2. MY DAUGHTER IS AUTISTIC, AND ATTENDS A SPECIAL SCHOOL. MY HUSBAND IS IN THE US COAST GUARD. WE LIVE SOUTHERN VIRGINIA.

- Child Time-out Not Working
- MY DAUGHTER IS AUTISTIC, AND DOES NOT REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT A TIME OUT IS. I THINK MY SON'S ATTITUDE IS, IF SHE DOESN'T LISTEN, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO?!
- Positive Reinforcement Somewhat Helpful
- POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT IS EFFECTITVE THE MAJORTIY OF THE TIME. PRAISE IS GOOD FOR KIDS.
