I don’t remember us playing together‘
Tho maybe we did…
When I look back
All I remember is the fighting---
Over every little thing.
Sibling rivalry is said to be present
When there is not enough love to go around.
And what if there is none…
And no one to teach us
To be kindTo one another,
To share,To love,
No basis for trust…
And now we are grown
Yet still not grown-up
And it is too late,
For you lie dying,
And know me not.
I know too late that I love you
My heart moans its pain
I live too far away,
And have money not.
Twice I have come and held you
As we slept as we did as kids
I stroked your brow
As you closed your eyes in bliss
Dear sister I trust that even ‘tho
In your mind you knew me not,
Your heart responded,
And said “I know it is you, sis”
And the night you refused to let me sleep with you
You got up in the night,
And I know it was you telling me you loved me,
As you somehow covered my feet,
As they hung over the loveseat,
Patting them gently,
With the words “there”
So while your brain is ravaged,
By Alzheimer’s so cruel,
Our hearts still know each other
And have said “I love you”
The best way we knew.

Joan, honey, had something similar with my middle sis and finally she passed. Yes, I believe in their hearts they know/knew. What seperates us physically, does not do so in our hearts. Love & hugs to you.
