When you go to the meeting at school make sure you tell them that you want your son to be on an IEP or ask about the 504 plan. On the IEP, children get more one on one time and the school and you can come up with ideal goals that your child will try and meet at the end of each school year. It is something to look into if you haven't already. Also about walking laps; when Luke misses recess, the teacher makes him run laps! One day, Luke did not want to and the teacher was trying to make him, he got mad and threw rocks at the building. Of course they wrote a long note that day stating how bad he was. I think what I am going to do is go to the school board about this. I think that maybe you should do the same about the school making the kids walk laps. I am sure none of this is in the "handbook of conduct" at the school. What if the child has a breathing problem or something? I would hope they would not make them run or walk laps! I just feel that our children are being discriminated against and it is making me really angry! I feel like pulling Luke out of school and home schooling him but I can't afford it. I looked into special schools for children with ADHD and ther are no schools in Kentucky! One is in Denver,Atlanta, and Texas. So I am right there with you! I just don't know what to do!

Thank you so much for your support. I wish there was a special school around here that Luke could go to for children with ADHD! It would be so much easier because teachers in the public school system are not trained to deal with children like our's! I am at the point to where I think I am going to strt Luke back on medications again. I really don't want to but the teachers are giving me a hard time about it. I am also concerned that I am holding Luke back from learning and being friends with the other kids. I just don't know what the right/wrong things are right now!

    • Close Parenting Newborns & Infants (0-1)

I have a daughter Calleigh who was born October 4, 2009. I also have a 2 and a 4 year old, they are little boys.

    • Close Parenting Toddlers (1-3)

I have a 2 year old, Kevin, was was born June 28, 2007.

      Treatments

      Patience Working / Worked
Trying to be patient with an overly active toddler... He is into everything and won't listen to anything.. terrible 2's they say... but when you spank him, he hits you back, when you tell him no he screams NO back at you.. He is a little out of control.. :(
    • Open Parenting Preschoolers (3-5)

I have a 4 year old, Rickey, who was born February 13, 2005. He is being evaluated for ADHD/Mild Autism on December 29th of this year with the only developmental pediatrician in our area.

      Treatments

      Child Time-out Not Working
He does not respond to Time Out, it doesn't change his behavior whatsoever.
      Education (School) Somewhat Helpful
He goes to Pre-K, but his teacher is not helping whatsoever. She is not patient with Rickey and she is always placing him in time out and singling him out in front of his peers. We are thinking about changing schools, or finding a special needs preschool. We have also contacted the prinicipal and are waiting to see what he has to say about his teacher's way of discipline and teaching my son..
      Patience Not Working
It is very hard to be patient with Rickey. He does not listen and there is hardly anything we can do to get him to listen or do what he is told. He constantly repeats himself over and over, and it's very hard to be patient when someone is repeating themself the way he does. He aggravates other people and other kids, they don't want to be around him when he's in a hyper mood.
      Love Somewhat Helpful
Its the only thing that I can shower him with so he knows that he is loved when when he cant calm down even when he gets in trouble at school even through his meltdowns and temper tantrums
    • Open Infidelity

My husband had an affair in October of 2008. It lasted about 5-6 weeks. It was one of the worst times of my life emotionally, mentally, financially, and physically.

      Treatments

      Forgiveness Working / Worked
I forgave my husband and it hasnt happened again. It took us along time (almost until now, a year later) to get where we are now and for me to fully start to trust him again.
    • Open Kidney Stones

I have chronic kidney stone disease. I have passed so many stones that I have stopped counting. I have had several urterthral stents, lithotripsies and a bucket retrieval method. Ive had stones ranging from 2mm to 2cm.

      Lithotripsies worked.
      Flomax Working / Worked
works when the stones are small enough

      Neurontin Not Working
      Didn't work
      Oxycodone Working / Worked
I was discharged from the PM clinic after taking medicine from another doctor in the hospital after kidney stent surgery. I would appeal this but I dont have enough money to do so. I am waiting to find another doctor..
