Close Wilm's Tumor
I'm a mother with an 18-yr old son diagnosed with extra skeletal ewing sarcoma in February 2009. The tumor inside his left kidney was 29 cm. He has a central line, a portacath, installed and has undergone 2 sessions of chemo: vincristine, doxorubicin, dactinomycin, cyclophosphamide, etoposide, ifosfamide. I'm having difficulty detaching from him, he gets mad when I treat him like a patient (remind him to wear a mask in public) but I'm just afraid he might come down with an infection. July 2009- My son has undergone 5 courses of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor in his kidney. His ct-scan and mri showed that the tumor is 6 cm. He had a nephrectomy on June 9, 2009 followed by 6 sessions of radiation therapy. The results show that his cancer is not extra skeletal ewing sarcoma as first diagnosed but Wilm's tumor, another type of childhood cancer with a good prognosis. He is again undergoing chemotherapy (vincristine and doxorubicin) and has 12 courses to go until the end of his treatment in December 2009. The doctors said we are going for a cure and I am hopeful that after his treatment he will live along, healthy, and cancer-free life.
