So I completed my first round of infusion treatments yesterday. It wasn't too bad. A little surreal sitting there surrounded by a bunch of chemo therapy patients who looked like they were on their last leg. And they all stared at my for a long time I'm sure wondering why I was their. I don't look sick. It seemed to take forever...I finally put my headphones on a listened to my country music and read my Harry Potter book. It felt like ice going into my veins and then it felt like my veins were cracking, a disturbing sensation to say the least. The nurse had misaligned something though and after a while I noticed that the medicine was dripping down my arm so she had to do it again. At the end, my arm ached like it had been hit with a baseball bat. And I've got the large bruise to show for it. They were going to leave the shunt in so that I didn't have to be poked again but the needle hurt too bad so I had them take it out.
After a little over 2 hours it was over. The medicine gives you an amped up feeling and they told me I might not sleep much over the next 3 days. You feel like you've got an adrenaline rush that won't go away. Disturbing when you really just want to lay down and take a nap but better than throwing up or something.
Today's infusion is at 9:30....it probably will take a little less time because they won't have to take my vitals 3 times before letting me go. Not knowing how the medication is going to affect me, they didn't want to let me go if I was going to pass out or something. Weird that my blood pressure is actually super low while on the medication and yet I'm amped up.
Didn't get much sleep last night....went to bed around 1:00 and got up at 4:00 wide awake. I think I'm going to have to ask the doctor for something so that I can get a full night's sleep.
Oh and no change yet on the numbness. I was hoping to wake up and feel again but no such luck. Maybe today will be the day. I was good though yesterday and didn't go to the gym and exercise. Can't say that will happen today though. I've got to work out so I will work out with my partner and try step class to see how it goes.
