Has anyone tried antidepressant medication to cope with this pain?  It was suggested to me but I am not sure what pill could help this situation. It seems like it's just a matter of learning to cope the best I  can under the circumstances.  My only child left at home moved out this week with her boyfriend so I am really struggling.  Empty nest and one estranged child is just a lot to cope with.  I appreciate anyone's input.  Thanks, Carla

I never judge my friends that take those meds but I never thought they solved anything! I am not against meds for physical problems but just seems the dangers out weigh the benefits to just try to drug problems away. I am sure many would argue that statement lol but I am okay with those that disagree with me as that is just my opinion. I agree with you it's a matter of learning how to cope with things and lots of caring support can help :) I rather take a good all natural vitamin that helps our body support itself. I am sorry about the struggles you are going through :( Welcome to DS!

Actually, a lot of people take antidepressants for short periods of time to help them cope. As long as it doesn't become a crutch for them, I find it acceptable. Sometimes, it's the only way people can be calm enough to be able to move toward acceptance. If you are feeling depressed, by all means, talk to your doctor to see about getting a mild antidepressant.

I went through the same thing es and my youngest 6 months later. But it turned out nice for my youngest son the girl is very nice..It was a little quiet but you will get used to it, it is nice because they also call or come over a lot. Myself I choose not to use antidepressants I guess I just was a little scared that I wouldn't be in control. And I really did need to analze and think about everything. But I really feel for a lot of people it really might help them and whatever we can do to get us through this I feel is acceptable. I cried everyday, but I am really good now. Each phrase we go through I think helps ease the pain. I got involved in my younger sons move.. Went over and showed him how excited I was for them and that really helped me. And if they see your excited for us we see him and her more now then when he lived at home and went out all the time!!! They get a little more settled down and love to have company...Hope your feeling a little better about it. Go shopping with your daughter, for their place, she will be so excited that you are into it with her....

I was on antianxiety pills-so they said? But I used them sparingly--just on really bad days. My issue was sleeping--if I could just get a good nites sleep I could cope so much better. How is that for you-do you sleep? I would suggest something to help you sleep for sure if you are like most of us and can't turn the old brain off when you lie down!!

I'm thinking about talking to someone about anxiety/depression meds myself. I tried them once and didn't like the way I felt foggy. Still, I'm like turtlelake and can't sleep at all with the racing thoughts. Not opposed to them if they help. Shoot, most of us in this group are under a great deal of stress that waxes and wanes. When it's at it's most severe, like yours is now, maybe meds can help.

I take them so I can sleep. I am very careful when I use them but they help me a lot. I need to be able to turn off my brain sometimes because it won't stop going over and over the same things and my anxiety level rises. This is called depressive rumination.
