When I asked my mother what she did to find the advocacy alliance program for my father, she said that she looked up the family caregiver support program online which is a federal and funds many advocacy groups that are on the state/county level or non-profits. This should be a good place to start:
      http://www.aoa.gov/AoARoot/AoA_Pro...
It is through the administration of aging but the person you are the caregiver for does not have to be elderly for you to receive help from certain programs. I hope this helps! Stay strong..

I am a TBI survivor and also help with caregiver responsibilities for my father who has had multiple strokes. He started having strokes when I was 14 and had to start helping take care of him early in my life. He is also an alcoholic. So I can relate to a lot of the things you shared. My mother is currently receiving benefits/help from a program, though I am not sure if it is private or governmental. I will try and find out what I can and I'll update tomorrow with hopefully some helpful information. We live in PA and if it is governmental maybe something similar exists in Ohio. She gets paid to take care of my father and he gets to go to programs that are beneficial for his health (and frees up some of her time as well for relaxation/enjoyment). Though I don't know what it is like to be in a marriage with someone who is an alcoholic/tTBI survivor and all the emotional struggles that come with that, I can relate to feeling upset at the person for their addiction being a part of their current illness, and all the "why me's?" that come along with it. For myself, these thoughts/feelings seemed to ebb and flow, and after time due to journaling, going to counseling, and talking to folks who supported me they started to soften. Stay strong! Talk to you soon.

Times have been more than tough since the accident. The Dr's are out of answers & I don't know where to turn. I am the only one working, my job doesn't offer benefits & I make too much to qualify for government assistance. It seems like we have hit every road block there is. I have been unable to find any TBI support groups near my home, so I am hoping that this website will help.
