This is my first day here. I must say that I am more than a little disturbed by the fact most people here say they didn't regain their sense of taste and that the dry mouth continued with no end in sight. I'm seriously thinking of stopping my treatments as they are killing my mouth and the awful taste in my mouth is really getting to me. I'm a very unhappy camper at this point.....

you do know oral cancer is extremely aggressive don't you? You need to know what the consequences are if you stop. Hey, hang in there, let me tell you what happened to me.
I am extremely reactive to any chemicals in my system. So when I had radiation, my body overreacted and I had, a raw mouth..much like a full mouth full of a canker sore, the full amount of my mouth was one big raw sore. If you are at that point, and let me say, eating is almost impossible because everything hurts, you should talk to your radiologist. What mine did was give me a week off to see if we couldnt heal my mouth up some to then continue. Well we had to take 2 weeks..and I stated to her, I tend to overreact to everything. I am willing to try but I am pretty sure its going to get worse. She stated 90percent of the time people's mouths start healing and bounce back and they are able to continue the treatment. that is a viable option for you.
I do have taste, its just different. And at first it was disgusting. It takes a couple of years to really know where its going to end up. Your life is worth it! Also, as far as dry mouth, there were some experiemental drugs out there for protecting your saliva glands..this was bout 9 years ago. I did do this but I got too sick, nausea, to continue that. Just so you know, that also can come back to varying degrees. There are medications, I call them my fake spit pills, lol, that do help you get more moisture in your mouth. I have to have water with me everywhere. its imperitive.
so what I am saying is hang in there! There are other alternatives..and that horrible taste will go away. I remember the first thing I could taste after all the treatments, it was like 5 months later, I tasted root beer! It was funny I couldnt taste anything else but chemicals but I could taste that..and man thats wonderful!!!
