Thanks, Hank. I'll see if Jim wants to talk to someone who has been in his shoes. Up to this point he hasn't been interested. His loss.

Close Hepatitis C
Because I'm considered a survivor of being infected with HCV and goping htrough enough treatment options with limited success including a liver transplant over 12 years ago. I want to be an example to others as well as help others who may be seeking advice or guidance, or just encouragement , or to share my experiences with others, or to share what I have learned over the last 20+ years about this disease... In other words, I want to give back for receiving the Gift of Life!
Treatments
- Infergen Not Working
- It didn't work and almost killed me but, I don't blame it because it just wasn't for me.
- Interferon Somewhat Helpful
- It only slowed down the progression of the virus spreading for only a certain amount of time, I was one of the first patients in my area to receive this treatment when it was still experimental and back when not much was known about the virus. I did clear for a short period of time but then relapsed after six months of being clear. I used to inject myself seven days a week and didn't complain but it didn't work in the end.
- Interferon, pegylated Somewhat Helpful
- It helped me for a certain amount of time but in the end, I had to come off it because of too many side effects. I then went on a low dose long term regimen of "Pesasys" and so far, it has been helpful.
- Liver Transplant Working / Worked
- Over twelve years post transplant, and still infected with HCV but, I've been on treatment more than four times already so that My Docs can help me protect my Gift of Life until something better comes out to finally slay the dragon once and for all! Too many things have happened to me after wards to write in this space but, feel free to ask me whatever you want to know, and I'l try to be as helpful as I can.
- Milk Thistle Not Working
- Went on it when I was first diagnosed over 15 years ago, and unfortunately for myself it didn't work but I have read some great success stories from others who went on it so, I guess it is helpful to folks who respond to it.
- Pegylated Interferon Somewhat Helpful
- It's worked for only a limited amount of time, and then I'll relapse but, I'm currently on a long term, low dose regimen in combo with Ribavarin in order to prevent the virus from spreading and growing in volume enough to start attacking my transplanted liver, and so far after 40+ weeks the treatments have been effective in doing just that! Thank God!!!
