I am a 32 y/o female who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder type 1 when I was 25 year old. I was diagnosed when I experienced a series of panic attacks followed by an episode of mania. At the time I was in NJ, but had to call my cousin's husband who is a neurologist to drive all the way from CT to pick me up because I was literally unable to leave my bedroom. I had recently became a physician at the time and was taking classes for my licensing exam. Unfortunately at the time, there was very little focus on bipolar disorder in my medical education, so I had no idea what was going on with me. It scared me to death. As expected, I ended up in the hospital for a week. I denied my illness until this year, taking only antidepressants and clonopin, when I had a major manic episode, my worse yet. I ignored a mini manic episode somewhere a few years ago. This one left me kind of crippled, but I am pursuing my career as usual. I have been stigmatized by physicians I have dated, and now I have decided not to disclose my status to many people. Well life goes on and I am adjusting to living a "bipolar life".

I have been suffering from BPD ! since I was 25 years old, when symptoms became manifest. Many medications were tired and I refused all but lexapro and clonopin. When I went into a serious manic episode lasting 3 months, I was realy to listen to my psychiatrist. I cost me a great job opportunity, which I have been working on for years.
