I am a graduate student with Catholic Distance University working on a Master's in Theology. I am working temporary in insurance to pay bills and for good heath insurance. I have lived with Crohn's Disease most of my life, diagnosed at 16, but the medical community believes I have had the disease active since age 9 / 10. I had major surgery in 1991, with 2 foot of colon and small bowel removed and resection. Just finished a 5 year remission non-medicated, and a recent flu bout definitely changed that. I am starting Entacort and 6-MP treatments. In 2003-2004 I was a Remicade patient (5 over 6 months), but had very bad reactions with fevers, hives and other horrible stuff. One doctor thought I might had Celiac as well, but my primary didn't want to pursue. I moved away for two years and a regular family doctor figured out that gluten did play a big part in my heath. My other 2 cousins with Crohn's are now gluten free as well. Which has helped us all to respond better to meds. I have been gluten free for just over 2 years and it has made a big difference. My brand new specialists, great personality, thinks my disease is brooding still and just completed a colonscopy. Disease activity through out the large colon, but my villi in my small bowel are back and healthy looking. (Yippie gluten free!) Though, looks like major surgery in the near future due to stricture (severe pernament scar tissue) and a fistula. He believes I need an advanced colon rectal surgeon to check me out. But we are going to work on getting me into a medically induced remission first. I been through everything imaginable, but I have traveled, studied, and worked my whole life as a teacher, youth minister, and currently a candidate for consecrated life where I live. I am here not because I am just stubborn but because of Christ's tremendous grace and mercy.
I have Crohn's and Celiac. Crohn's diagnosed in 1988, Celiac discovered 2 years ago.
