Close Keratoconus
I was diagnosed with KC in 1975 and have had 4 corneal transplants - 1976, 1981, and 2002. The 1st set gave me 26 very functional yrs. I had a WONDERFUL corneal specialist, Dr Tom Wood in Memphis Tn. He retired last yr and I felt like I'd lost a very close family member. Every Dr. marvels at the great job he did with my transplants. His bedside manner was excellent as well. So... if you dont have a GOOD corneal specialist -- SEEK UNTIL YOU FIND ! I am looking at another transplant on my r eye most likely. I have had to go back to a hard contact to have functional r eye vision. Advanced technology does sound promising for the KC population with the B2 treatment now being studied. I am happy to say that above the pain, frustration, and expense, I have never allowed this disease to own my attitude. I refuse to be its depressed 'victum' God has already answered many prayers for me with the KC challenge. Remember....we all can have a great life in spite of this disease.
