About Me
On July 29th, 2009 I started having weird feelings in my left leg. I kept pulling up my sweat pants, expecting to find a rash or maybe something crawling on me. That night in bed, my fiance touched the back of my upper leg while I was nearly asleep and I sprung out of bed, still not knowing what was wrong and yelled at him (Come on, I was sleeping!) I went to my fiance's mother's house early in the morning to drop my daughter off and told her how I had yelled, again, in my sleep. I jokingly said "I probably have a stinking blood clot" because I had a minor surgery about one month before and always go to the worse case scenerio. Of course, she made fun of me for self diagnosing which I always do. I left my daughter, got in the car and drove two hours to a friends house in Baltimore, Maryland. While driving, I realized I couldn't move my leg from the gas to the break, I could't hold my soda between my legs, I was instinctively stompping my foot without trying to, and I was just uncomfortable. After my friends and I got to the pool party, it was hard to get out and walk. My friends were in the pool but I could not put my leg in the pool, it hurt to touch the water. I had to leave my one flip flop on because I could feel every blade on the bottom of my foot. Anything that came in contact with my leg just did not feel right. I knew something was wrong so I called my daughter's God Father who is the charge nurse at the local ER. He told me to go to the ER in Baltimore, and of course, I refused. I stayed at the party longer and left at about 5pm. (we got there around 10am). We got home about 7 and I went to the ER. Around 10pm I was told I could go home and follow up with my PCP for possible nerve damage but my daughter's God Father was not satisfied. He asked for an ultrasound. We had to wait a while until someone was called in and about 2 hours later she finally got there. Nobody thought I had a DVT, not even me. I was in the room all by myself and the tech was convinced I did not either- no classic symptoms. I asked her if she could tell me if I did and she said "No, but if you do I have to do the entire right leg. If you don't, I only have to do the goin on your right leg." When she got to my calf on left leg her jaw dropped and she said "Oh my God, you DO have a DVT!" ( I don't think she was supposed to say that) I called my daughter's God Father and he came up right away. I was admitted instantly and put on a Heprin IV. I started Lovenox injections when I got home for 10 days and have been on Coumadin since. 10 Days after my hospital discharge I was outside walking when I lost my breath, started sweating, my heart slowed down and I had to lay down. I thought I was weak because of the Coumadin (it made sense in my mind) so I just relaxed for a few minutes. The next day I started coughing blood and feeling a lot worse. I was admitted to the hospital for a minor PE. Because of the size of my DVT it was not that harmful and I was discharged a few days later, but it was still scary. I suffered for severe, painful phlebitis, chest pain and coughing up blood. Hope I never have to do this again...but glad that I am one who made it through.

I’m With You
I have dealt with CFS/FM for years. Its isolating because its so grossly misunderstood. This whole DVT/coumadin mess has just been going for me since June. Mine has been below and it has gone so high it went into danger and I felt it. I think its pretty safe to say that most people won't understand the stress of balancing the unbalanced basically.. unless they have the condition. Now and then someone... friend, family, lover "gets" things, but it can be a lonely war. My doc just keeps me at 5 mg no matter what. He says otherwise you make it worse... and mine leveled. But my fluids are a mess. In horrid pain today because I put on 8 pounds in 2 days, from pumpkin pie spices. GRRR. Myself I don't stress my levels, but I have this quiet fear... of what might happen. I am grateful I won't have to stay on this stuff but going off will be scary. I bought Ginko and gonna stay on that forever.
Anyhow enough about me. lol. You have the right to stress, worry.... etc. Easy for someone not in the situation to say you're on the meds don't be a worry wort. aka don't stress me out with your stress. Over time you see that people have one of maybe 3/4 reactions and it hurts less. It's like a human behavior experiment. A lot of people mean well but know not what they say!!
