This map shows patches of badger habitat by quality with black being the best. It also shows possible corridors for movement (in pink) between these patches.Man it took weeks to get this model to run. Better late then never!
The area shown in this map is about a million and a quarter acres. The patches are far better connected here than in other areas where we will work. Look at the small black patches of habitat in the upper left of the map. Those areas are separated by wheatfields from other patches of sage. They are too small to support genetically viable badger populations.
This area still has a lot of intact sage steppe badger habitat. Other areas do not. So, to preserve populations, we might restore wildlife movement corridors between patches. These models are intended to help inform management.
We have badgers in the UK too.
We are on the edge of the countryside, and I know where there is a badger set near here, but I wouldn't go there on my own at night...too creepy! It's in the woods, and very dark, and unfortunately they are nocturnal.
It's probably better that people don't know they are there. The path has been blocked by those who manage the land, so that they will be left alone. It is quite overgrown now!

I have not got a clue as to how you manage to put this information together and come up with an accurate map. This is amazing Free.
