This hug goes out to you, your family and small son. I am an adult survivor but have a friend that incurred her tbi at birth. The forceps were too tight and damaged the cranium. No occurence until she was 4 and had her first epileptic seizure. She continued to have them until she had surgery removing a portion of the hypocampus that directly affected/caused the seizures. She has been seizure free since 1998 then in 2000/2001 she was hit by an illegal while crossing the street. No more seizures but has complext PTSD. cranial sacral therapy is an excellent modality practiced by some peditricians and PT's. to find a practitioner in your area visit this web site http://www.iAHP.com, and good luck.

I didn't need the Thank you, but I also know what it's like as I have a 18 yr old son who just happens to be Blind and have Autism, so I'm speaking from expereicen there too! Oh, by the way you need to check into your local DFACS office to see how to get in touch with Early Intervention in your area. They specifically work with Birth to 3 year olds that have developmental issues or have disabilities to plug you into the right services for little ones. You need to do this quick since he's 32 months old. Good Luck!

The first thing you need to understand is that there is no "typical or usual" symptoms from TBI patients. Although some people suffer from some what I call residual affects of TBI - everyone has a mixed bag of symptoms.
    (1) My TBI occurred over 3 years ago and my excruciating H/A began approx. 3 months after injury.
    (2) I haven't had direct therapy for my H/I yet. It will start within the next month. PRAISE GOD! I can tell you that the Neurologist tried me on several medicines for my H/A before we found one that worked part of the time.
As for my own therapy I did - I lost definitions to words that I knew in H.S. and college so I started working my brain by looking up and writing down the definitions af ALL words I would come across I didn't know. (I'm still doing it and even though I can't remember 5 minutes later what I've looked up I still do it. This has helped me tremendously in the area of increasing or getting back my brain function in the area of general intelligence and academic per my latest Neuropsychological evaluation.)
I had severe problems communicating from 2 mos to 8 mos after injury. The other thing is if I got too tired or didn't pace myself, my communication was affected for days.
    (3) Either May 07 or May 08 I started taking:
Super B Complex which says on the label - This product promotes energy metabolism and NERVOUS SYSTEM health.
At the same time I started taking Omega-3 Fish Oil at 2,000 mg a day. the label says - Omega-3 fatty acids are considered one of the "good" fats important for cellular, heart and metabilic health, and help maintain triglyceride levels already in the normal range.
    (4) Communication problems I explained partially in (2), but I started talk therapy at 6 mos post injury and my therapist just told me yesterday that she remembers for a long time I couldn't say sentences and I would leave out critical words in trying to explain things.

My best advice for you is to get to a Pedicatric Neurologist that has experience in dealing with head injuries, because your average PedNeuro isn't going to try to get you the help your Son needs.

Heavenly Father, I lift up this Mother and Father who has a great task before them of getting the help their Son needs. Please direct their paths to the right Dr's and Therapist that can work on their son's areas of need. I pray that you will give them Patience, Endurance and Diligence in this process of the path that they find themselves on now. I lift this prayer up through Your Son's holy, Wonderful and Precious name, Jesus Christ. Amen

    In Him,
    Sheila

Thank you for your support. I am glad to hear your son is progressing. I have a feeling our daughter can't see.. she doesn't move her eyes and they go to the left. I try calling her name but she doesn't look. We are still in the ICU and she will hopefully be extubated tomorrow. I am scared and nervous for what is to come...
