About Me
I'm an administrator/faculty member of a large higher ed arts program in New York City. I also do publicity design and am a theatre critic. I was diagnosed with RA in early 2000. Though it can be tough sometimes, hope is my guiding star. That and love get me through.

Superhero Status
Random hug to Rossly...I hope you're having a good day. :)
Chicken Soup
Hopefully you can eat everything in this chicken soup? All your food sensitivities are slightly distressing...I'm impressed you're willing to change your diet so thoroughly. I love to eat the same kinds of fruit that you did before you discovered your sensitivities, and it would seriously pain me to give them up (I MUST have grapefruit!). You are nothing if not devoted and committed to your health. Keep on keepin' on, enjoy your veggies, and have a hug too. :)
Moment of Peace
Back at ya! You have a message from me in your DS email....and have a hug too. :)
Hug
I am very happy that you don't feel alone, because you certainly aren't! We're all here to listen, anytime, and we all gain strength from each other! I'll be watching your thread!

Support Groups
Close Rheumatoid Arthritis
Diagnosed in early 2000. Current severe flare started May 2008. Can't manage getting to an in-person support group, so I looked for one online. The support, advice, and empathy offered by the members of this group convinced me to join.
Treatments
- Azulfidine Not Working
- Didnt work. Also, gave me diarrhea.
- Folic Acid Not Working
- Took this while on Methotrexate.
- Methotrexate Not Working
- Didn't work. Also, caused sick feeling, headache, and nausea.
- Plaquenil Not Working
- Didn't work. Also, made me slightly nauseated.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- Prednisone (high dose, short duration) has helped in the past to stop the progression and help get me back to baseline, but not remission. It is no longer working, sadly.
- Tylenol Not Working
- Arthrotec Somewhat Helpful
- This is just Voltaren with a stomachprotecting drug misoprostol wrapped around it. Important note DO NOT TAKE THIS if youre pregnant or may become pregnant. Misoprostol can cause spontaneous miscarriage. I find that this helps more than Naprosyn but it also gives me simultaneous diarrhea and constipation. I KNOW it sounds impossible. Trust me its not. Ive come to call it constirrhea.
- Naproxen Somewhat Helpful
- It helps just enough to keep me functional but is inadequate for any significant improvement to quality of life painreduction sleep etc. However if taken with food it gives me zero side effects.
