Former HP SW engineer, now disabled due to lifelong Bipolar/BPD/PTSD. At 16 (early '80s) I was diagnosed bipolar and borderline along with a ridiculously high IQ (Mensa level), however as my supportive (good) family died off i found myself soul-searching and realised i was differently gendered. This ended my 17 year marriage and left me without my 12 year old child, who is now 19. Only this year (on SSDI and nearly ashamed of it) have i finally started getting the care i need to live alone.

Welcome to the Bipolar Community! It's a great place for support and friendship. If you have any general queries about DS, just ask me. When you are ready maybe post an introduction under General Topics at http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Bip...
Mark, Community Leader, Bipolar.
I was diagnosed bipolar in the early '80s. My mother and her mother were also bipolar, however during my mother's day (she died in '76) they called it manic-depression. My maternal grandmother however was never formally diagnosed but it was evident to me (she passed in '00). My grandmother also self-medicated herself to death with ethanol, a sad sight to see as organ failure took away her ability to even talk to me by the time my ne'er do well uncle decided to call, after she was hospitalised.
I was diagnosed Borderline Personality Disorder in the early '80s when i was 16.
