That's cool. Whatever works, right? I can never have too many tools in my chest. I'm always learning. About recovery and about living life without alcohol.

Close Alcoholism
To discuss how we can recover from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body.
Treatments
- 12 Step Program Working / Worked
- The 12 steps work. ALL of the promises in the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous have come true.
- AA Meetings Not Working
- I don't understand why AA Meetings and 12 Step Program are a two different types of "treatment". AA meetings are nothing but a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope. Any groups primary purpose is to spread the message(12 steps) to the still sick and suffering alcoholic. Meetings are not treatment, a support group, or a program.
- Detox Working / Worked
- Detox is not a treatment. "Though we work out our solution on the spiritual as well as an altruistic plane, we favor hospitalization for the alcoholic who is very jittery or befogged." pg xxvi. If detox has done anything it was getting over physical withdrawal a little more comfortably so that I could work the program of AA. If detox is the only thing anyone has done and never picked up a drink or drug again....they are not a real alcoholic or drug addict.
- Residential Treatment Center Working / Worked
- Interval Brotherhood Home Akron,Ohio. This treatment center gave me a safe place to start my life again. It mainly saved my life because I was able to work the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous without any outside interference.
- Willpower Not Working
- I am almost enraged that this is a form of treatment. Even if it was possible for me to use will power to not drink or use drugs for a certain amount of time I would have at some point began to think I could control it and drank or used again. If I sat around and told myself "Okay I can't drink that beer because i'll end up in jail or prison again." It would be readily supplanted with the old threadbare idea that this time I could handle my drinking or drug use like a gentleman.
