About Me
I have suffered with chronic pain in my neck & upper back for 12 years; this year I was in 2 car accidents in April, which aggravated an already bad injury. I had lost my full-time job at the beginning of this year, and had found something part-time, when the accidents happened. I had to quit the new job because of the increased pain and Dr's appointments. I just filed for disability, which I've heard can be a very long process. This is the first time I've joined any kind of CP group; over 12 years I should have done it a long time ago!!! I am eager to meet people who understand, as well as hopefully lend some encouragement to others who are also suffering.

Close Chronic Pain
1997 suffered a herniated cervical disk due to someone totaling my car. Pain has been constant; 2005 I had someone rear end me at a light, and another car was totaled, aggravating pain that was already there. April 2009; 2 accidents in 2 weeks; rear ended at a stop light in one which increased neck & head pain, and had a dump truck plow into my car in the second one, which has injured my upper back & shoulder I have just applied for SS disability
Treatments
- Acupressure Working / Worked
- insurance won't pay for it
- Chiropractic Adjustment Working / Worked
- Been seeing a chiro off and on since 1997. It works at different times; not enough on its own, though
- Cymbalta Not Working
- terrible side effects, really blurred vision, panicky feelings
- Flexeril Somewhat Helpful
- not the best muscle relaxer I've used
- Heat Not Working
- I find Ice to be a better solution, because heat seems to inflame
- Hydrocodone Working / Worked
- currently taking
- Lidoderm Somewhat Helpful
- used these for the past several months; great for my back, but won't stay on my neck because of my hair.
- Meditation Too Soon to Tell
- Naproxen Not Working
- really did nothing for me
- Nerve Blocks Somewhat Helpful
- worked for a period of time; not long enough though
- Oxycodone Working / Worked
- Not currently taking; I get too itchy
- Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- 2 different rounds of PT; I did have good results as far as pain management, but they released me after a while because I wasn't getting any better, just staying the same. Currently, I do the exercises I've learned over the years on a regular basis as part of my home treatment
- TENS Somewhat Helpful
- It is helpful over the course of the day, but does not provide immediate relief. Great for back/shoulders, but cannot be used on my head/neck
- Massage Somewhat Helpful
- OK for pain management, doesn't improve
