My mom was recently diagnosed with lung cancer as well. She is 88 and was told there is no treatment for her as she wouldn't be able to handle the chemo. They also found a small tumor on her liver. Plus .... to make things even worse, she fell 3 weeks ago and fractured her upper femur. She is now in a Nursing Home and is recovering from her leg injury and doing better everyday.
I too am scared and do not know what to really expect. My dad died years ago from colon cancer and yes, I watched him suffer. I was so glad I was with him holding his hand when he died. I am in California, my mom is back in Upstate NY. 3,000 miles away. I am hopefully going back to NY at Christmas and staying a few months.
I know that this is so hard on all of us when our parents are ill. I was very close to both of my parents. I don't know what I will do when my mom goes ... I call her twice a day or more to talk .... I will cherish every minute I still have with her.
Be strong for her and love her. I can understand her fear as well after what she had just has been through.

Hi Grace~~I am sorry to hear about your Mom, I will keep her in my prayers, and I will also keep you in my prayers. i am 57, had lung cancer surgery in December, and went through 16 weeks of chemo starting at the beginning of this year...the cancer returned to my bones (sternum and rib) two months later, so I had radiation for 13 days, and am doing chemo again. Please let you Mom know that i am very willing to talk with her about anything. She may need to talk to someone else close in age that is going through the same thing that she is going through. Take Care and God Bless....Carol

Hiya I saw your question in the non smoking group. Go and do some reading on whyquit.com and read Allen Carrs book easyway and that will give you heaps of info about the addiction. Then you can choose a quit method, for instance cold turkey, nicotine replacement, chantix or wellburtin. Then set your quit date and away you go. Its not easy but its doable. The group will support you
