      wow. I was just recently diagnosed with Graves and started PTU. My endo said i would be on it for 2 to 3 months then get RAI. So, far, I haven't seen much greatness to going that route. I wish you the best and just remember "there is light at the end of the tunnel".

      Hi, Dana, My situation is nearly identical to yours. I'm 48, was diagosed with Graves last fall and with TED early in '09. Your photo is the first that I have seen that looks like what I've experienced with the severe puffiness above and below the eyes. I have found, as others have said, that things do improve with time. Best wishes from the other side of the country.

      Diagnosed with Graves Disease - October 2008, Had RAI - February 2009 which triggered Graves Opthalmopathy in April 2009. Taking Prednisone for GO; moon face, gained 40 pounds, hair falling out, rashes, leg cramps, etc,

      Treatments

      Methimazole Working / Worked
      This worked great to lower my thyroid levels, HOWEVER, it lowered my white blood cell count to almost nothing so I could not continue with this medication.
      Radioactive Iodine Not Working
      Having RAI was the WORST decision I have ever made. My health has completely fallen apart since I had this done. It triggered the onset of GO for me and now I'm on Prednisone with all its horrible side effects and I can't get off of it.
