i did like and relate to what you wrote, very insightful, knowledgable and aware. i have been so many thru years of therapy and much of it was damaging or band aid only due to therapists lack of knowledge of this dynamic and not even haVING HEARD OF IT IN MANY CASES. OOPS sorry for caps! the realization of MBP may take years...it certainly did in my case. i just didnt put the pieces together. my illness, chronic pain and near death actually was a real thrill for my father. i see MBP like you said, battered woman syndrome, but also in some cases like stockholm syndrome, and other times a sadomasochistic dynamic between parent and child. i am still caught in both, even with insight but it gets better! we need to educate ourselves and others, especially therapists.
we need to laugh more, listen to uplifting or healing music, love our bodies that have been so betrayed...and know we deserve more happy times, we do not need to suffer in order to please....hugs! susan

i reread my message to you..sorry for typing mistake! my parents both seem to have mbp. i was so attached to my mother in particular, i just couldnt face it...even just recently facing some of this has been causing me to feel so crazy, hurt so bad and i am 57 yrs old and been in therapy most of those yrs! there was so much hidden from me by both them and my denial... .. ... susan

Welcome! So glad to have you as a member...this is a small group so far, very few people seem to know about this phenomenon....even therapists. Susan
