Close Bereavement
Type: Loss of a ParentI lost my mother to cancer on July 18,2009. I have no idea how to get through each day. I am devestated. I keep thinking each day will become easier but that hasn't happened.
Treatments
- Crying Working / Worked
- I find that I cry often. Sometimes in public and very often in private. I feel drained.
- Getting Angry Not Working
- I am very angry but cannot voice or show it for fear that my husband will think it is directed somehow at him.
- Grief Counseling Considering
- Looking for support groups or private counseling.
- Helping Others Working / Worked
- I help my Dad being that he is handicapped. He can do quite a bit by himself it just takes him a very long time to accomplish anything. I hate to see him struggle so I try to help where I can.
- Keeping Busy Considering
- I need to find hobbies and get back to exercising.
- Music Somewhat Helpful
- When Mom was back in the hospital and things were very hectic I did purchase a few relaxation cd's. They did help. I need to get back to listening to them.
- Pets Working / Worked
- Recently got 2 Golden Retreiver puppies. I find the distraction helpful but wish my mother was here to enjoy them also.
- Poetry Not Working
- Not a fan of poetry.
- Prayer Not Working
- I pray/talk with God and my mother often. I am angry with God for taking such a wonderful person who took such great care of others when she could finally start to enjoy her life.
- Psychotherapy Considering
- Reading Working / Worked
- I find reading magazines (short articles) a bit relaxing but feel guilty that I am not spending that time with my husband.
- Remembering Working / Worked
- I do it all the time. I also find that it helps but often I end up crying.
- Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
- Depends on who it is...my Dad understands and we try to talk through it. My husband who was a great help to my family doesn't understand what I am going through. He did not come from a loving, supportative, intact family. He thinks I should be doing less for my father and that I am neglecting him. I believe that he feels I should be moving on with my life. Friends are there if I need them.
- Support Groups Considering
- Looking for a local support group.
- Talking Working / Worked
- Depends on who I am talking with. I find that it sometimes makes my life worse.
- Time Too Soon to Tell
- Mom passed 1 month ago yesterday.
- Xanax Working / Worked
- .25 mg. 1 tablet 23 times a day or as needed.Takes the edge off.
