I have not a hyperactive but add son who is not on medication but has a history of major problems in school, since pre kindergarden actually. He just doesnt want to listen and runs around or has no motivation. Its been an extremely stressful sixteen years even though I love him very much. All the failures due to his non focus, has affected him and Im not sure but I think I regret not putting him on ritalin consistently. He did take if for around a year once but I gave him less than half of what the doctor prescribed by cutting it in half and he was fine with that. but then he stopped wanting to take it. big mistake. I find doctors overprescribe and not only kids, adults also, so I am going to put him on five milligrams this september and stick to it and see how he does. I found the larger dose which we tried last year was wayyy too much for him and he was grinding his teeth and just exhibiting weird behaviour. So another mom who is a teacher told me to just give him five milligrams and it should be ok. So Ill see. now a teen he has had tons of school probs (not with drugs or fighting...yet....but other things, like compter addiction and never leaving the house or doing any sports....) and I realize that I need some support from other parents in the same boat, because no one understands what i am going through. It is hell sometimes and I could really use some pen pals to share our ideas and help each other find solutions. thanks :) take care
