    • About Me

I have rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis/ irritable bowel of some sort, and asthma. Because of this I deal with chronic pain and anxiety/depression off and on. Oh yeah I also don't have a spleen (lost it in a car accident) which impacts my immune system a bit too. I am 28 years old.

    • Close Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis

My disease is affecting my career and social life to a large extent lately, my doctor doesn't seem to fully understand, I don't know any real life people with the disease, and the national foundation in Canada only does fundraising not support groups :(

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Too Soon to Tell
It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or don't eat, just how I am feeling when I eat. Although avoiding milk doesn't seem to hurt (I was allergic to it when I was a kid).
      Azulfidine Not Working
I actually took this for my arthritis but it never seemed to help.
      Dietary Modification Not Working
I tried avoiding all wheat and grains for a week or two--- if anything it got worse.
      Methotrexate Not Working
Took it for my arthritis -- but reacted to it (headaches, and even hallucinations)
      Prednisone Considering
I've taken it in the past for my arthritis but I haven't tried it for my colitis yet.
      Probiotics Too Soon to Tell
Not sure if this does anything to be honest. i take it off and on, usually when I am on antibiotics and don't notice any huge difference.
      Humira Somewhat Helpful
Not sure if this is helping to be honest but Ive been on immune suppressants for a few years for my arthritis and I get a feeling itd be a lot worse if I went off them.
    • Close Rheumatoid Arthritis

I've had rheumatoid arthritis since 2003, when I was 22 years old. It has profoundly impacted my life. I don't even remember all the drugs I tried until I finally started Enbrel which helped. Humira is something they switched me to recently.

      Treatments

      Arava Not Working
      Didn't work
      Enbrel Working / Worked
Best drug so far on improving my arthritis!
Folic Acid Too Soon to Tell
      Humira Working / Worked
It seems to help, but I prefer Enbrel.
      Hydroxychloroquine Not Working
      Didn't work
      Methotrexate Not Working
Didn't work, nasty side effects (headaches, some hallucinations, etc)
      Pain Management Clinic Somewhat Helpful
Doesn't get rid of the pain but some ideas help you to ignore it better, I guess.
      Prednisone Somewhat Helpful
Temporary help as we all know
      Tylenol Somewhat Helpful
Rarely use this - only helps sometimes. I took T3s when I was in the hospital for pain relief.
      Ibuprofen Working / Worked
      Helps with paininflammation

I like to make lists to get thoughts out of my head so I don't have to worry about them anymore.
    • Open Asthma

I've had asthma since I was 6, and it has been severe at times, but I outgrew most of it. Only have occasional problems now.

      Treatments

      Advair Working / Worked
The only medication I still take - highly effective for me.
      Albuterol Working / Worked
Worked but caused many heart palpitations.
      Inhaler Working / Worked
      Pulmicort Working / Worked
      Singulair Working / Worked
